Practical advice for mum struggling with move to new build!

After much searching following us losing out on a property we loved, we finally found a new build property back in February. After a long and stressful conveyance we got the keys over the summer and then moved in this weekend gone! The house is beautiful and the space is just what we hoped for but after only 4 days being here, the reality of living on a building site is hitting hard. We're one of the first to move in on the whole site and theres another year of development to go! We chose the plot as there's no development out the front (we look over beautiful fields) and we have a great garden size (plus we really wanted to move this summer and not have to wait longer) but we have a lot of building going on to the side of us and that's going to be the last part to be developed so it's not going to move on until the end. The site office, machinery and skips etc. are literally to the side of our drive. I'm trying to be grateful for what we have and be rational and realise it could be worse, especially as the road out front is completely finished (which a lot of people say can take years to be done) and that the time will pass quickly but the dust, the noise and just the eyesore of it is taking the joy out of living here. I feel silly that I was so naieve to what it would be like. Has anyone been in the same boat and have some positive stories or practical advice. Thanks in advance

We had similar a few years ago. You do get noise from the work but they aren’t there at the weekends and will finish early during the week - especially with the nights drawing in.
We got to know the site foreman well which we did use to our advantage. If there were any issues with the property he sorted them out for us, often without having to go through the official channels. They also did some extra work for us - such as laying a block paving path for us at a very reduced rate.
We did get a lot of dust - they regularly washed our windows and gutters etc because of this. Once the other houses go up and they start working inside it does improve.

Thank you for your reply. Glad to hear some positives. And, yes I suppose I didn't think about the fact that the end of the development does include them doing a lot inside and it won't all be exterior. If it wasn't for the site office and skips etc. being next to our house I think I'd be finding it a bit easier. It's just like you can't escape the site of it! The site manager is lovely thankfully. I do babe some health anxiety which is what I think is worrying me about the dust. But I suppose there will be people living in older properties that have other issues with damp etc so it's swings and roundabouts.
