I live in a relative's home with my disabled son (I own 5% of it, the rest belongs to the relative).
Due to the fairly catastrophic and chaotic end of my very short marriage I have struggled to get the house that used to be my home ready for sale but I'm nearly there now, thank goodness.
I visit to sort it out as often as I can but it's not my 'real home' anymore. A tenant who doesn't live anywhere else lives there, she's happy to move out whenever it's sold but for now it is her 'real home'. She uses part of the house, I've been getting repairs done in the other part and clearing out the remains of my stuff.
Where I actually live should count as my main home for Council Tax but the new rules this year for Council Tax are confusing.
Should the tenant be liable for the full Council Tax even though not using the whole house? If we share the Council Tax should it now be charged at the double rate?
Neither property is empty and both have a permanent adult resident.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
