So sorry i dont know where to start this thread.
Im coming out of a toxic relationship, my parents are buying a house in Selby.
They have asked me and my 9 year old son fo consider getting a house and relocating there.
It sounds good but as im in the north West I dont know much about it other than Google
My son has adhd but is not disruptive so I want it to be are final move but have a good school.
Im self employed and can work anywhere.
Is anyone able to offer any information about the area and if they are happy there please?

I know Selby, I am personally really fond of it and it's kind of my 'dream' place to live. It's a little town with everything you need, good transport links to York and Leeds. If you don't drive you can easily get the train, about 20 mins to both places. Selby used to have a bad rep but I've visited a few times (for research purposes as I want to live there!) and I didn't get any bad vibes. However check the crime stats as it does seem to be a bit sketchy in places. Nothing compared to some parts of the UK though.
There are new estates being built meaning new people and more of a mixed community if that makes sense! - in my opinion this is a good thing.
I like the fact that everything is on your doorstep, and lovely walks on the canal path nearby. ❤️

Its a nice town surrounded by nice countryside. Some very nice outlying villages, but it’s a low lying landscape with a lot of flood risk. Check out the flood map for planning before you commit to a property.

What flood information do you need - Flood map for planning - GOV.UK

Get flood risk information and maps for planning applications and planning permission in England, including flood zones and flood risk assessment data.

I dont live there but fairly nearby and visit once a week or so. Like any town it has nice and less nice areas. Decent facilities - supermarkets, sports centre, college. It seems to be on the up - in the past year a Tim Hortons and M&S foodhall have opened. Personally I wouldn't want to live in Selby as its a bit grimy and industrial but there are lots of lovely surrounding villages.

Selby is my nearest town and I like it. It is a smaller market town so sometimes you do need to travel (e.g. cinema, larger hospital etc) but you can get to York/Leeds in 30/40mins in the car. The links to the motorway are good.

There’s a few primary schools in town to choose from - some are bigger than others. You can consider the nearby village schools too.

Like most places, there’s some dodgy parts of town but you’ll be able to get a good idea from Google Streetview. YouTube may have some walking around town videos.
