We are about to complete on a bungalow and will do a front and rear dormer. Almost all homes have one and planning was previously granted. How much do you think is a realistic budget for getting this done

No idea but I will say this. Why buy a bungalow then turn it into a house? Why reduce the stock of bungalows? New houses are being constructed but very few if any bungalows.

I assume because it is cheaper than buying a house?
No idea about the conversion costs but I would budget around £100,000as I know loft conversions down south pre covid were about £60',000 and that prices have gone up a lot because materials costs jumped.

The bungalow already has a converted loft which has been poorly done with no Velux and planning was previously granted in 2021 for same double dormer conversion but wasn't done by owners.

Then no blame to you but it bloody annoys me.

You could equally say bungalows are a waste of space, because they take up more land area than houses for the same number of rooms. You still end up with a proper downstairs bathroom, if someone can't do stairs, and probably more ground floor space for a lift if necessary.

Your ideas dogcatkitten

Space saving - should the size of people’s land be regulated? should we all move to live in blocks of flats to save space?
“Can’t do stairs” - how ridiculously wasteful to buy something unusable then spend more money installing a lift?
Have you considered people in wheelchairs?
Within a five km radius of where I live thousands of houses has been or are being built. Only FOUR new bungalows have been constructed (and they’re on small plots).
People in the market for a bungalow are looking at existing stock. Convert the loft and their pool is reduced.
Savvy?
