Neighbour attached things to our side of boundary

We've just noticed the neighbour behind has attached two posts to OUR side of the boundary wall facing into our garden. There was a screen in front of the wall so had not noticed before - assumed they were on his side. He's drilled them in as well.

Can I ask him to remove them? How? Feel quite anxious about it as he seems a bit of a bully. Also don't really want to get into a neighbour dispute.

Yes the trespassing isn’t ok

he should have asked for rights to access

as you’ve said he is awful it’s about trying to get what you want. Is it an apology? Him taking it down? Police action? Decide what you want and the best way to get that might be softly softly

I want him to put it on his side of the wall so they are not facing into my garden. They are ugly. I'll still see them from his side but it won't be quite so bad.

Why did he not put the batons/wood posts on HIS side of the dividing wall please?

Probably because they are ugly and he didn't want to see them!

Ah ok that’s clear and reasonable then.

you could try the charm approach and say ‘I was surprised to see… as I always thought this was our wall… have you got different on your deeds?’… see if he blusters etc

and then say ‘ah ok as it’s my side I think you’d better move them…’ or even imply you might want payment? That might prompt something?

once you both agree whose boundary it is you can work out what happens next. A solicitor can write you a letter - maybe the one you bought through if it comes to that

Plus I think he has some sort of large outbuilding / shed built up to his side of the wall come to think of it - so maybe he couldnt put them on his side of the wall and he didn't want to attach them on his shed. That would explain it actually.

I wouldn't want him removing them as it means he'll have to come into your garden again to do it. If you know which house it is from the front, drop a polite note through his letterbox saying you've noticed some fixtures on your side of the boundary wall that appear to be servicing his property. You do not want to have this affixed to your side of the wall, so will be carefully removing them at the weekend and will place the wood back on his side for him to do with as he wishes.
