Paint splatters on window

Where the wall was rollered we have paint splatters on the glass. Its in a conservatory and its 7 years old!!!

I think they may have baked on in the sun!

Its annoyed me for all this time and tonight I tried to get them off with a non abrasive sponge/scrubber thing and it wouldnt touch it. Im too worried about scratching the glass to try anything else.

Even with a thumbnail its quite difficult to get off

Pressed too soon, my question is, how to get it off?

I'd be tempted to get one, I absolutely love mine, use it for all sorts.

Scrape it off with a razor blade if you scrape side on it shouldn't scratch

Happyapplesanspears · 26/08/2025 19:54

i used WD40 after a tradesman left paint splashes in my car - came off quite easily

Arlanymor · 26/08/2025 19:55

WD40 or white spirit.

BlueMongoose · 26/08/2025 20:07

What sort of paint?
You can get holders for razor blades that have an angled handle and you can just slide it along the glass, usually works well, and the handle keeps it at the correct angle to avoid scratches.
I used solvent to get spirit based paint of a fancy 'bullseye' plane of glass in a little window with lots of tiny panes because its shape meant a blade would not work, only to find that pane and that pane alone was perspex or something and it all went cloudy. 😖 I am gradually polishing it clear, but it's taking forever, I just have anther go and polish it a bit clearer on the rare occasion I have nothing better to do. On the window that's a pair to it, even the bullseye glass is glass, it never occurred to me the other wasn't.

Use warm water for water based paints
and turps for acrylic based paint

I think I would be too nervous to do this

The paint was exterior paint, its the back of the house

Actually Ive just realised its nothing to do with the conservatory, its the window to the house that was there originally!!

Oh no ! It really does work though but if it is making you nervous then don't. My next suggestion would be methylated spirit and dab it off.

Coffeeishot · 26/08/2025 21:56

Or as a pp suggested Turps

minipie · 26/08/2025 22:04

Window scraper as a pp suggested, they are designed for this. You can get cheaper ones than the Stanley one, really just a plastic handle holding a large razor blade. The key is to hold it absolutely straight and perpendicular to the window- if you press harder on one side or the other it will scratch, but it’s quite easy to avoid this. Honest!

with respect you are being pathetic
removing paint from glass has been done with razor blade / scraper for >100 years
it is one of the first tools my father passed over to me (along with some of his razor blades)
Flat window glass is the most perfect surface you can get for scraping paint off , as long as you used a "bladed" scraper, not the sort thing you would use for wallpaper or applying filler with

This sort takes "ordinary" utility knife blades rather than the original (and still best) razor blade

Wot23 · 26/08/2025 22:14

utility blade scraper

Paint splatters on window

I think I'll try the lower key options first before looking at scrapers, I have a disability which makes things difficult with my hands, they're unreliable so a big risk with something like that and then progress to something else if I dont succeed.
