Starting a new job - will my contract be enough proof of income to rent?

I’m in my mid-twenties and about to start a new job on Monday, after spending the past six months travelling. My boyfriend and I are planning to move in together for the first time and hope to rent a flat starting in October. We’ve already begun viewings, but since I’ve never rented before, I’m not sure what to expect when it comes to the application process.

My main worry is around proving income. Because I haven’t been working while travelling, I don’t have recent payslips to show. Will a copy of my new job contract or offer letter usually be accepted as proof of income or will I need to source an alternative eg. guarantor? TIA!

That will be up to the landlord.

My daughter showed her contract as she was starting work after university. This was fine with the estate agent.

You dont really have any other option do you? Bit of a moot point.

depends entirely on the LL if they want you to provide a guarantor.

Your new job obviously has a probation period, so irrespective of the salary per the contract, you remain a "risky" unknown quandary in terms of ability to support ongoing rent.

I assume the rental will be in joint names with boyfriend?
You do realise that means you are liable for the entire rent? There is no his and her split, you are each liable for the whole lot.
Any split is a matter between you and him, of no concern to agent or LL, if there is a shortfall on the rent the LL will chase either or both of you (or a guarantor, if there is one)
