Do you have a cellar?

Latest house has a cellar. I live alone and have always found the idea of cellar creepy - being locked in etc. However, here I am with a perfect good dry cellar. But what do I use it for?

I'm fortunate in that I already have spare rooms and good storage so what do you use your cellar for, or would use it for if you had one?

Ours is accessed from the kitchen so I use it as a walk in pantry. We have a freezer and an extra fridge down there.

Storing crap mainly Grin
It has got the big chest freezer and a massive workbench that belonged to DH's engineer grandfather. There's a wine storage area and lots and lots of Christmas decorations. It was used in the war as an air raid shelter by the family at the time.

No, I don't have a cellar.

When I lived in a house with one, I didn't use it; there was plenty of storage in the house.

I imagine most people use it in the same way that they'd use an attic, as storage for things that they don't use very often, or in some cases, simply don't need but won't get rid of for whatever reason.

You're free to use it for anything you'd like though, as long as the space supports it both in terms of space and environmental conditions.

My grandparents had a cellar. Part of it was used as workshops for the children (one was into carpentry and the other into painting), and the rest was used for storing homebrewed alcohol that sometimes exploded!

My mother's is used for storage, e.g. shopping bags, tools, shoes that aren't worn every day, cleaning things and so on. The only issue with hers is that sometimes mice get in!

Personally, I'd like a cellar as I am always keen on maximising storage space.
