Chimney breast removal - approx costs??

Hi all,

We are thinking of removing the chimney breast in our dining room to open up some space and complement our kitchen extension we had some years ago.

However, before I start paying for a structural engineer (not cheap) I was hoping someone else may have had this work done recently and happy to share approximate quotes for the work (removal, steel beam, decorating etc).

We are Greater London based, 1930s house. We haven't had any building work done to the house since 2019 and I know the cost of builidng work has rocketed and my gut feel is the work will be a lot more than my DH thinks and may not be good value vs gain!

Thanks

Did it a couple of years ago. The entire job cost around 18k.

This included removing a wall separating two rooms, supply and fit steels to support chunky brick chimney stack that has now “disappeared” at GF level. Dorset.

Wow! My DH was thinking it would be under 5k!!! Looks like it will be staying

@PowerthruIT It's very likely to be under £5k including the structural engineer. It's hard to say exactly what ours cost (just done this summer), as it was part of a bigger job, but I would say no more than £5k for sure, all in. And that included additional steels and replacement of the entire ceiling.
