Best flooring for pets that's long lasting and doesn't stain & a bit water resistant to spills.

Hi, I'm looking for flooring advice..

I'm buying my first home and after years of scrubbing carpets and hoovering pet hairs of out carpets I don't want a carpet in the lounge.

Due to having pets and I'm very clumsy and tend to spill things it was recommended I go for luxury vinyl flooring and not laminate as was told laminate would stain and not water resistant. But I've now read that laminate can be water resistant. So very rather confused. Can anyone advice which is better long term?

I've ordered some vinyl samples (some were awful thin and cheap looking...think the glue down type which i didnt like) then found some thicker ones which are much better looking (in my option)....these click in place.
Ease of installing is irrelevant as I'm not mobile enough to do it myself so will have to get a fitter anyway.

Based on my criteria of having pets and needing flooring that doesn't stain would a luxury vinyl flooring click style be better or laminate? (I'm looking at grey colours and don't like the really glossy ones as think they can look cheap but also on a bit of a budget (so being cost effective would be good)....not like I'm asking for much hey)! Anyway, thought I'd ask the people that have a lot more experience than I have!

Thanks for your advance and input.

I have thick vinyl in half the downstairs- kitchen, hall, cloakroom and loo. It’s looks like tiles and is nice to walk on. Then laminate (waterproof) in lounge/dinner. Both easy to clean and I have cats. Carpet upstairs

I've had this down in my house for 6 years and it's still perfect.

I have 2 dogs and my lounge is open plan so there's a very heavy traffic area from the front door right through the lounge/dining room to the conservatory.

Also the pattern is very forgiving with muddy paws as it makes the marks quite difficult to see.

Vinyl definitely the way forward for pets. Make sure its one with a grippy surface. Nothing worse than watching pets skid around on slippy flooring. Its really bad for them.

Have you looked at marmoleum? It is the same as the original linoleum from the victorian era and is made from wood shavings and linseed oil. Comes in lots of patterns, is warm underfoot and can be sanded if it gets damaged.

LVP is basically plastic. It's much better than laminate which bubbles up terribly if it gets wet. Much more scratch resistant too.

I have a dog and have carpets, but for the kitchen I went with a herringbone vinyl flooring, this it was this one https://carpets-online.co.uk/products/herringbone-lino-vinyl-flooring-alaska-63-beige

The only thing I would say a few times our dogs paws needed cutting and when they were grown I could see small indents on the vinyl, it may be because I went for a thin vinyl as it was meant to be temporary but after a year I still haven't got round to changing it!

Due to having pets and I'm very clumsy and tend to spill things How? Are you tripping over the dogs or do you have medical issues yourself such as dyspraxia? I have a dog but that doesn't make me clumsy!

Are you planning to have underfloor heating? We have tiles in our kitchen/diner/lounge with underfloor heating, but some of those synthetic flooring work better with it than others. Have you been to any flooring shops to see what is available?

I’ve got Amtico in two rooms. I have a dog. I love it, it’s easy to keep clean/ vacuum. It is not cheap and has to be laid by an expert but wouldn’t go back to carpet.
