What colour are your internal doors?

We have FINALLY got enough money together to replace the internal doors.
There are 8 of them…most off one hallway
rooms off the hallway are
kitchen - light oak cabinets with light oak wooden floor, wall are currently pale green, but are due decorating
Bedroom with grey carpet
!lounge with oak floor. Going for a cosy look in this room, currently cream walls and curtains brown leather settee which needs replacing
Bathroom black floor black and white walls
lobby is again black and white with light oak floor
hallway itself it grey carpet.
3 of the doors with be glazed to make most of the light.

I want something future proof so I don’t have to change them again if I change colour scheme.
I initially thought white doors with black handles, but a friend says ‘everyone’ has oak these days.

I painted my doors the same colour of the hallway.
You can always paint your doors when renovating. But I agree with the light or medium oak doors as the best neutral/future option

Very old building

Mainly black FB Railings

Others we found the original paint colour ( on the more recent ones of about 17th century ) to be Hardwick Hall FB ( or at least best approved match )

Then some others were colour matched to FB Old White

Then a few on the ground floor are blackened by open fires original oak.

Sticking with the idea of the original building design might help

What age is your building

house was built early 80’s.

ok
Well youll be delighted to hear the 80s colours were prime colours
So bright green, blue and especially red 🥴. Sorry that was no help in the end

Ours are oak. But mainly originals from 1950s so it’s what was here. The odd door we have had to replace due to reconfiguration and they cost a small fortune to have oak ones with similar style and mouldings made ( like €1000+ per single door)

Just about replace our old white painted doors to oak varnished ones.

Mine are light oak but after 10years (we haven’t lived here that long) they are grubby a d marked so I guess at some point I’ll have to refinish them. I don’t like the colour especially with the stone floors. It’s just gray/beige everywhere

Bluevelvetsofa · 17/08/2025 18:39

We had wooden ones in our last house. Great not to have to paint them, but they went quite orange.

Can you give an estimate of cost….including fitting.
Sorry to jump in this thread….but I’m off to an industrial estate tomorrow to look for 11 new oak type internal doors to include furnishing & fitting.
Is £250 a door a fair estimate or will I need a bank load!
thanks!

Advocodo · 18/08/2025 22:41

Our quote doesn’t include fitting and we have now decided to go for even more doors than our original quote. I think we were pleasantly surprised with the quote.

Mine are (mostly) white. There are a couple of cream-y cottage doors (I'm assuming that they are original) in need of repainting. One has paint chipping off the bottom of it, revealing that it used to be pea green!
