I'm thinking about buying a ground floor flat in the area. It's close to Streatham Hill.

I used to live near Streatham hill. In fawcett close.

I liked it. Youre close enough to get to London easily but far away enough that its pretty quiet. Especially Streatham hill. Has an awesome high street too.

Can't say much about family life as I was single at the time but I thought it was an alright area

Streatham High road is one of the most polluted roads in the country. It’s full of charity shops and cut price shops. I find the area quite threatening and I avoid it as much as possible.

Personally I never felt it there. Lived there as a 20 something about 10 years ago. I guess places can change.

When I lived there it was pretty quiet... but close enough to get to the busy areas

Define good? It’s a decent place to have a flat if that’s what you can afford around there. Easy to get the train into town or a bus to Brixton. Close to Streatham or Tooting common. It’s not for everyone but if you like south London it’s as good as place as any to get on the ladder.

There are better areas but guess you are limited by budget. You seem to have multiple threads asking similar though. What are your priorities ? Ds lives in an area I would not choose to, but the rent and location work for him. I lived in a houseshare in Streatham many years ago. It felt grubby and a bit run down back then but an easy commute to central London.

I used to live on Wavertree road in one of the white flats at the bottom, and I really liked it but that was ten years ago. It's probably been fancied up by now! It was busy then but not mad and the high street was great.

Depends on how quiet the road is.

It's OK. Personally, I'd prefer West Norwood or better still Upper Norwood.

Lots of traffic calming being put in at the mo which divides people. However great transport links (train, bus and tube from Brixton) and Tooting Common. Go for it!

I’ve lived in and around Streatham for 18 years now (suddenly feel old) as it was the first place I landed in London after uni. I bought my first (ground floor!) flat in one of the mansion blocks off the high road and now have a big Victorian semi as a family house a bit further down. I’m obviously biased but I think Streatham is great! I’ve been super happy here, as a single person in my 20s and now in my 40s with kids.

It has changed a lot over the years - all the people griping about the high street are a bit out of date. Sure there are lots of chicken shops (and who doesn’t want one of those after a night out eh), but there’s also hipster coffee shops, a reformer Pilates studio and a Gail’s bakery! It’s never going to be as achingly middle class as near neighbours Balham or Dulwich but I love it all the more for that.

so (obviously!) I think you should go for it!
