Kitchens without integrated white good. Pros and cons

I'm redoing my kitchen and have a perfectly working freestanding washing machine and dishwasher. Looking at kitchens everything seems to be integrated now, and obviously looks shiny and sleek. Anyone done their kitchen and not integrated white goods?

I'm so undecided... obviously would be cheaper to keep existing ones but would I regret it long term?

Tell me about your kitchens please...

I know it's a bit 'off topic' but clothes in the washing machine/drier are clean? They're only dirty before you put them in and unless you've got the dirty laundry basket actually in the kitchen all the time, there's not going to be any cross-contamination with clothes and food. I mean you have dirty water in the kitchen all the time from washing vegetables/dishes etc...

I have a very small house with quite a big kitchen. I'd never have integrated appliances because I like the 'farmhouse kitchen' look with free standing units, it suits my cottage better than a very 'smart' integrated look.

My dog sleeps in the kitchen so dirty water from clothes would be the least of our worries anyway! I doubt anyone has ever got ill from carrying their dirty washing through their kitchen to the washing machine.

Well yes. That's my point. Worrying about the 'dirty laundry being in the kitchen' as a PP posited, isn't really a thing.

I know, I was agreeing with you!

Excellent. That's two of us - anyone else?

Getting ill from dirty laundry and worrying about it? Where did I say this? All I said is that to me it is illogical and if I could plan it differently (while doing a whole new kitchen) I will do it. That's two appliances that you don't need to have in the kitchen (either free standing or integrated) and there are other posters here who have said they don't like the look of them so they hide them. You are free to feel differently, but please don't tell me I am worrying about getting ill about doing laundry in the kitchen when I have never said or implied this. You are derailing the thread at this stage...

I don't particularly like the look of integrated...I prefer a more rusticy vibe. We fully renovated our house and the kitchen has no integrated items. Our washing machine is in the laundry room with tumble dryer.

You've quoted the wrong poster. 'Getting ill from laundry'was @SomeOfTheTrouble . And you were the person who said a washing machine in the kitchen was unhygienic. It really isn't.

I assumed that by saying something was ‘unhygienic’ meant that you were suggesting people could suffer adverse effects from it.

Interesting points so far, thanks. I too have a freestandind Smeg fridge which I love so it's the dishwasher and washing machine for me really, which are both white, which I'm not sure what to do with. All the kitchens I've admired so far are not white so they likely would stand out.

What about integrated washing machines? I always leave the door ajar to let it dry out. Can't imagine that's practical with an integrated one. Sadly I live in a small flat so a separate laundry room is a no go.

Interesting to hear everyone's opinions. Didn't realise fridges needed the extra space. Does sound annoying to replace once things stop working.

I'm not planning on moving anytime soon but from a resale point of view it's interesting to hear what draws people to kitchens and what's a no no.

Some of the non integrated farmhouse style kitchens are lovely.

It's not a problem. I leave the machine door and the cupboard door open whilst it dries.
