Cost of new composite front door

Has anyone had a composite door fitted recently? I have just been quoted £2790 for a new front door and frame, door handle and letterbox (including fitting). Is this normal or does it seem a tad pricey? It's a pretty standard front door, nothing fancy. Half glazed.
I'd love to know what others have been quoted, if you're happy with yours and which companies you chose. Thanks everyone.

My DP owns a window company he will be home after 6 I'll ask him if theres anything that affects the price extra work etc or if thats pretty average if you would like?

Fitting a door is a skilled job and they have to make/ install/ adjust a frame , maybe trim down the door, adjust it etc. my SisiL has a new wooden door custom made with stained glass, painted etc and it was something like £8k.

Our was £1,480 standard composite door and frame letter box and half glazed including fitting.

used a local guy with good reviews

Didntask · 07/08/2025 16:50

That sounds about right to me, we paid similar a couple of years ago.

If its a straight foward fit he thinks thats quite pricey, but having said that it varies depending where you are and what the fitters charge, agree with above find a good independant with good reviews or word of mouth even better, thats where all his work comes from he doesnt advertise

Got ours from a chap on ebay, he sells cancelled orders etc, we got lucky and found a door and frame with locks etc for £300...cant remember the seller but have a look.

Ours was similar about six months ago but also included the small side panel, we're in the north

GentleSheep · 07/08/2025 18:09

Yes had one fitted a few months ago - cost was £1,772 (inv VAT). So a lot cheaper than yours OP! It has 2 glass panels, but I chose clear glass to keep the cost down, nothing fancy, with letterbox and handle.

It you have a standard size door and it’s a standard door that you’re going for, I’d say that’s quite pricey. I paid 2200 because I had a side panel that added quite a bit to the cost. I used a reputable company with show rooms.

Ilovegoldies · 08/08/2025 04:19

1200 we paid a few months ago. We also paid 1900 for 3 windows. We were quoted 5k for 4 windows by a different company which is a huge difference so shop around!

CoastalCalm · 08/08/2025 06:32

your quote is about double what I’d expect after having a quote recently for my mums house

We paid £2.1k for a door with 2 glazing panes in it and a side glazed pane (about 30cms). Sounds pricey but depends on how much work there is to do and any access issues. This was in the midlands, I guess location in country might affect pricing too?

£925 (just checked) for similar using a well established, independent guy.
The companies were quoting similar to you, the independents pretty much all under 1k.

We had a composite door fitted, with 2 glazed panels - one down each side. It cost £3k about 3 years ago.

CeciliaMars · 08/08/2025 07:02

We did this a couple of years ago. We ended up getting a Solidor door and are very happy with it. We used TimberCompositeDoor.com and it was just under £2k. I love that you can choose a different colour on the inside and outside!
