Thinking of ordering my new kitchen from DIY KItchens as we can get a lovely wood kitchen with quartz worktops for less than the price of a Howdens MDF/laminate combo. Am happy to.plan myself (Howdens plan was awful, so was Wren's).

Any tips/tricks/feedback on DIY K?

I got my kitchen from DIYKitchens 5 years ago and very happy with it,was 2000 pounds less than wickes we are lucky enough to live near the showroom so went there to get it sorted the staff were fab . The units come ready assembled so make sure you have enough storage space till they are installed, and we paid the extra charge to heave them delivered on a named day five years later my kitchen still looks brand new.

We have just used Better kitchens, similar to DIY kitchens (we looked at both). Absolutely fantastic price and experience. They have a lifetime guarantee on hinges and he cabinets are delivered fully assembled (good quality for the price of ikea). We bought worktops/sinks/appliances separately and added good quality door handles. I love my finished kitchen. The person who installed it was very impressed.

We installed our DIY kitchen (we have the inframe shaker Helmsley range) last November. So I can't vouch for longevity but I love it.

The people at DIY kitchens are super helpful and check your plan and assist with queries but, ultimately, youre responsible for designing and double checking.

The downside is, if you miss a bit or you need another end panel or unit etc, its not as simple as just nipping to howdens but I'd still recommend them. Definitely worth visiting one of their showrooms.

We had a local company do our quartz. Not because of any other reason than it was nice to be able to go see full sized slabs.

I've had my DIY kitchen 5 years too, looks as good today as the day it was installed. Custom painted units in colour match to F&B. Had a tiny chip on the dishwasher door recently which I touched up with an F&B sample pot - DIY supplied samples originally but in 5 years they'd dried out.

Our fitter helped look over our plan to make sure we had enough end panels and that everything fit correctly etc. Had one small issue with doors that had handle holes drilled upside down, DIY replaced within a week which included being custom painted. Can't fault service or quality, recommend.

Currently ordering and designing through them. Word of warning- the cabinets themselves are reasonably priced but make sure on the price calculator you add all the extra bits on. Our cabinets doubled in price by adding on end panels, VAT and delivery. They now do a designing service for 29.99 which we used, this was very good! Samples for doors sent out very quickly too.

We’ve had ours since 2022 and we are very happy with it, and the overall experience. I would advise you join this group where you will find all sorts of reviews, plus tips and ideas you didn’t know you needed.

Oh, my image is under review, sorry, it’s a very long named Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1FgjuNFyTF/?mibextid=wwXIfr

We love our DIY kitchen installed probably 9 months ago.
I had the design done by one of the designers on their Facebook page. Already had designs from Magnet and Wickes but his was so much better and he put all the components needed for it in my basket and I then paid

Kwamitiki · 04/08/2025 08:35

Thanks all. We have used the FB group, but wanted some feedback outside of that bubble. Bit worried about delivery and damage, but wondering whether that's just because people who have a bad experience are more likely to share it!

Got ours last year, delivery was as stated. We did have 2 damaged panels but they replaced them within days. Couldn’t be happier.
I can see why some people have an issue with the delivery model but I think the price and quality of the kitchens make up for not having an exact date until a few days before.

Our kitchen from DIYK is nearly 4 years old and looks as good as new. We went for the Norton in 2 bespoke F&B colours. Very pleased overall. We got our worktops from a local supplier as their prices were better than those of DIYK .

PhoneMeATaxi · 04/08/2025 14:07

Lots of customers on Youtube including Nick Morris (a renovator, who has used them in several houses including his own) and Gosforth Handyman reviewing them. They keep costs down by not having showrooms all over the country, just the original Yorkshire one and now an Oxford one. There are also videos from people who have toured the showroom too on youtube.

We just had ours installed. Bramley in Heritage Green. We love it. There was no damage to any of ours. Would highly recommend. Our fitter says the quality is too notch.

Our kitchen from DIY kitchens installed in 2018 still looked brand new in 2024 but we've moved and need to do it all again so am looking into all the options, including Ikea.

I'd never heard of Better Kitchens, can anyone tell me more? They seem very similar to DIY kitchens, anyone know the difference?

willstarttomorrow · 04/08/2025 17:44

@CalamityK8, I looked at bothe DIY and Better Kithens they seem comparable in quality and what they offer. Both send sample doors and let you plan online using their websites. Despite DIYK being just a few junctions along the M62, Better kitchens came in cheaper. I am really happy with the quality, the service and the hinges have a lifetime guarantee. Reviews are good for both and people tend to agree they are equal inquality to Howdens at half the price. Both have been around a while and are well established family businesses.

akkakk · 04/08/2025 18:12

Another here with a kitchen from them (and home office and pantry and utility room!) all done 2 years ago and still looking superb - brilliant company to deal with, very cheap against others and yet higher quality... The facebook group is good, and most important part - make sure you have someone very good to fit it which will make the most difference whichever supplier you choose

Iwiicit · 04/08/2025 18:23

I designed and ordered my kitchen from DIY kitchens by myself. I used graph paper and a pencil! My fitter was highly dubious and dreading what he was going to find on it's arrival. He soon changed his tune - everything was perfect and he kept on repeating that he couldn't believe the quality and how cheap it was etc. Reader, it's been 9 years now and it looks the same as the day it was fitted and has never chipped, scratched, broken, nothing!
It's withstood 3 teenagers and a very clumsy husband and stands unscathed.
I actually visited the showroom and got answers to a couple of queries I had. The staff were exceptionally helpful and told me not to waste money in something I didn't need. They also had free Borders biscuits and hot drinks, if you're impressed by such things (I was).

From what I can see from the reviews it’s either the dark coloured doors or custom colours which seem to have the negative reviews.
Ours is white so nice and easy and no issues at all. Also we had one damaged unit which was replaced with no delays. And, randomly, we had a dark blue end panel but we had enough with various offcuts etc for it not to be a problem.

We fitted ourselves so didn’t have the frustrations with delivery slots or potential delays with replacements. I also work from home so again that made life easier.

nellly · 04/08/2025 18:40

We used them last year and were really pleased with both quality and customer service. No damage at all. One mistake here wrong size filter panels sent and they had the new ones with us within 72 hours.

we did Helmsley in Mussel.
our fitter really rated them and said they had fitted them before and been impressed.

Stampcee · 05/08/2025 19:45

My kitchen was from Better Kitchens over 5 years ago and still looks brand new. Such a friendly and efficient family firm. Nothing was too much trouble. I think the quality is slightly better than DIY but both companies are easy to deal with. We have twin teenage boys and I have to say, the units are bullet proof even with them slamming around! Would definitely recommend both companies (my neighbour has a DIY kitchen).

Exhaustedtiredneedabreak · 05/08/2025 20:45

My DIY kitchen is 8 years old and is now looking a bit worn and I have some chips in doors. The units and worktop are fine so I thought I would just buy some new doors. Alas. They won't sell just doors. Be warned! Although they were great when I bought the thing.

Most of these types of stores don't have loads of showrooms. DIY kitchens only has two (Pontefract and Oxford), better Kitchens only one. If you are looking for a lot of helpwith design etc, neither are for you, though the savings are decent if you can master it (and don't mind a stack of samples at home).
