One main pro is it's easier to clean!
If you have young children (or they visit) try to remove the p*ss from a carpet after an accident 🤢
On the other hand a wooden floor discolours with liquid stains - depending the wood.
Wood floors - depending the wood again, the older ones can leave shards - in the hand of little ones who play on the floor.
IMO wood is great, warm, softer than tiles but more washable, easier to maintain tham carpets long term, but well - I grew up in French farmhouses so, a bit biased!

I love our wooden floors - they’re the sanded and varnished original floorboards. They were very handy during the baby/toddler years for cleaning. I’ve got three cats and the fur tends to collect in dust bunnies in corners rather than coat the whole place like it does with the carpet upstairs so it’s quicker to clean.

Cons are mainly pet related - they’re a bit scratched now from having mad kittens charging about at high speed. Our last one lasted over 20 years before we decided to get it sanded and refinished again, and that was only because I went off the colour of the varnish. They’re pretty hard wearing. I’ll definitely sand the floors in any future house.

The hard surface will cause more echo unless you have a lot of rugs. This can be problematic for deaf people.

We have floor boards under our carpets and I have frequently been tempted to sand and varnish. However there are a huge amount of gaps and feel it may be draughty in the winter months.

We have the original floorboards and I do love them and they are easy to keep clean. However we do have gaps between the boards so its surprising what goes down them. Also bear in mind on upper floors there is a risk that a liquid spillage might seep through to the ceiling below.

We had them in our last UK house on the ground floor - hallway, living and dining room. We had rugs in each of those rooms. Can't say we noticed any draughts.
I now live in Melbourne and the entire ground floor is timber, as is very common, but they hardwood, sealed, and are laid without gaps. We still have rugs, though not in the kitchen. The same rugs as it happens. Smile

They look great, easy to clean.

They look good and are hard-wearing but expect creeking boards which can get a bit annoying.

And scary when they creak unexpectedly in the middle of the night.........
