Scandi bathroom - would this work?

I am thinking:

White marble effect floor tiles, wood units, small herringbone white tiles for the sink splashback, and large white tiles for the shower.

I would then plan to have green plants and towels, and off white (cashmere/blush) type paint on the walls.

Do you think it would work?

Initially planned on wood effect herringbone floor tiles, wood units, and wood slatted feature wall, with large white tiles for the shower but I think this would be too much wood. But now worried it's not enough wood!

Help! I have spent hours looking at inspiration pictures and have only ended up more confused.

A photo would go a long way here to help us see what you are after.

Kellywiththelegs · 31/07/2025 21:04

I can visualise what you are after, it would look good but it’s very ‘now’ every Instagramer has this look, I think it could be quite passé quite quickly.

Overtheatlantic · 31/07/2025 21:05

I think it will be lovely and calm. The wood units will add warmth and the white is being done in marble effect and herringbone which will provide texture. I’ve done similar but with light grey instead of white.

user593 · 31/07/2025 21:14

We have gone for a similar look, but we used neutral grey stone effect porcelain tiles (stack bond) on the floor and plain white ceramic tiles (10x10cm, running bond) on the walls around the bath/ shower. No splashback. We have a light oak vanity.

I don’t think marble effect tiles and herringbone will age well. If you do do herringbone I’d do it on the floor with a faux or real limestone rather than on the walls as this has more of a timeless feel.

Scandivibes · 31/07/2025 21:16

Thank you!

@Kellywiththelegs that is a worry and also why I've gone off the wood slat feature wall thing. I feel like I am seeing it in every influencer bathroom, hotel etc.

Hence I thought I'd just swap to herringbone white tiles which may be more timeless. But maybe herringbone is also very much 'right now' and will go out of fashion?

@Overtheatlantic yes that was my thinking, that at least with the marble effect and herringbone it won't be too white and clinical

You don’t have to use herringbone. You could find a panel with an etched pattern. Let me see if I can find an example.

Oo that sounds lovely!

Hmm yes I think you may be right. Funnily enough I really did not like or even consider marble but I came across a tile I liked yesterday which kind of swayed me.

I did initially want herringbone on the floor, but in this case I'm not sure what to do about the sink splashback, just plain white metro tile or something seems boring. Maybe textured ones like these?

Otherwise attaching a picture of my ideal look but not sure how I'd achieve that wood effect wall panel

Actually. these tiles have a rough stone look that could be nice. Again, it adds texture.

If you use eggshell on the walls you really don’t need a splashback in my experience. I’ve always tried to make my bathrooms feel as unbathroomy as possible and only tile where needed, etc.

Scandivibes · 31/07/2025 21:29

Otherwise I found a floor tile quite similar to this which I really like and would go well with wood units. But I don't know what I would do about the splashback.

And what would be your recommendations for taps etc in this type of bathroom? Chrome, brass, ...?

Ps: thank you, it helps to talk it through as DH is NOT interested

I really like this one OP! 😊

I like Scandi style but I’m not sure white marble effect floor tiles would work … the rest sounds nice though

That herringbone floor on the last picture I LOVE ! What kind of tile is this?

OP posts:
user593 · 31/07/2025 21:35

@Scandivibes It looks like limestone to me, or faux limestone. I looked everywhere for something similar but couldn’t find it! But there are new tiles out all the time. We ended up with a similar colour/ effect but big square tiles.

I love this! That is very much in line with my vision. I think this would work, it looks more natural and textured.

My problem though is wanting large tiles around the bath (less grout to clean) and a different tile (like this one) around the sink, so I'd have to make sure they don't clash and match somewhat in colour so it's not too weird.

That is reassuring. My current bathroom is tiled all over which I really dislike. I was worried that they were there for a reason and my walls would quickly get ruined (especially with two young kids).

Can you order samples? I really think you’re on the right track but I understand how hard it can be. There are so many options!

user593 · 31/07/2025 21:40

Maybe this OP. I’m not sure what your budget is and this photo is the beige colour way but they also do ivory and grey.

I have 14 samples on their way including some very left field choices like a flowery tile.😂 Ordered at midnight last night in a panicked frenzy, not sure what I was thinking!!

I’ve just had fitted wood units (Vienna oak from Wickes) and wood panelling around the bath which looks good with grey floor, wall and bath side tiles (as the ‘groove’ in the panelling is grey too) and some ferns to soften. Isn’t too much wood in my view but it is quite a big room. I do like those patterned floor tiles, they would go lovely with your plans. I was outvoted on something similar.

That is lovely and the "natural material" look I am after. Lots to think about!
