Small single beds...what age?

Hi,

Not sure of I should out this here or in parenting...we're redoing both DD's bedrooms, one is 3 and one 9. Due to space restrictions we're considering getting them small singles (75x200) beds. Our 9 year old currently had a standard single high sleeper, but wants to change this to a standard height bed. Losing the floor space is going to mean a narrower bed will work much better. I don't really want to be changing beds again...so will small singles be OK until late teens??

Very difficult to predict thier body sizes 10 years in advance. 75cm is a bit too narrow for an average adult - which they probably will be by late teens.

My dd had a shorty narrow bed all the way through. But we are all short.

Depends on their build, but they are designed for children not for adults, so it would be unusual for it to still be comfortable by mid-late teens

My dd was 5ft 7 at 13 and is now 6ft at 19. She moans a double is too small.

Ds was 5ft 8 at 13. 6ft 4 at 14.

The beds will be too small for teens, unless they are tiny.

I just checked and they’re ok for adults too. Depending on their size of course.

My 6 year old is now 130cm , unless you have very petite children they won't be comfortable for teens

It will be awkward and more expensive to find mattresses.

The bed I liked for my DD was 200 long (European standard vs UK standard of 190) and I ended up abandoning it and buying a normal size bed.

My children were both taller than me by age 12 and I am 5ft 7.

I wouldn’t want to sleep in a small single.

Thanks all, I think we'll go for standard singles and look at other storage solutions x
