Kitchen or bathroom first?

Both kitchen and bathroom need redoing but not sure can afford to do both at same time. Is it better to do kitchen or bathroom first? I would prefer to do the kitchen first but would doing the bathroom later create a mess in the kitchen from the dust?

It doesn't matter what order you do them in unless there is some weird pipework thing and you want to move a boiler or something like that?

I’d do the kitchen first, you spend more time in it, it’s a more visual part of the house and you’ll probably spend more money on getting it done to your needs.
Bathrooms, as long as the plumbing works can usually be spruced up cheaply until they’re refurbished.

Kitchen first, we are currently in process of finishing our kitchen and wish we had done it before the bathrooms.

We’ve decided to do bathroom first as we want a bath and don’t have one currently. Kitchen is a much bigger job as we need to find out about removing a wall and is much more expensive.

We usually do the kitchen first (seventh renovation here!), but that's often due to structural stuff we want to get out of the way.

For example, in both our current home and the previous one we've relocated the kitchen, swapping it with two reception rooms which involved removing walls/adding steels, so the disruption is fairly major (this one needs replacement of 40+ year old boiler too). Therefore we'd rather get it done before anything else. I know some people prefer starting at the top and working downwards though.

Thank you for your advice. Both rooms need doing and I’d hope to do them both within 18 months to 2 years. If I did kitchen first would the dust from doing bathroom ruin it? That’s my only worry about doing the kitchen first as I’d hope to be able to do the bathroom the year after. Bathroom is upstairs and kitchen is down stairs off a hallway.

I did the bathroom first as it was so much cheaper and took less time.

If you’re doing both within 2 years it’s probably more cost effective to get them done together (same builders etc).

I'd start with the most complicated thing. We did bathroom first, but mostly because it needed more time. We renovated it completely while the kitchen didn't need this much effort. If you're doing massive renovations and rebuild pretty much everything, I'd recommend starting with a model of these future spaces. There are programs like https://interior-design3d.com/ and https://www.homestyler.com/ where you can build 3d models and see how it would look like (and whether you like it)

Is the bathroom near the kitchen? Why would kitchen be dusty? You can keep dust down by putting up sheeting and hiring an industrial vacuum cleaner. Don’t use your home one.

Thank you. The kitchen looks like it’s going to be the more complicated, bigger project, so I’m leaning towards doing that first. I’d love to do both rooms together but I’m wondering if it’s better to do one at a time in case there are unexpected things that require sorting and paying for when the work is underway.
