Look at Beckenham, much nicer than Streatham, and cheaper than Wimbledon. What’s your budget?

We used to live in Wimbledon, we decided we'd have to move for Secondary school, and so we thought if we were going to move, better do it sooner, so the kids didn't have to be the new kids at school - so we left when the kids were 3 years old...we moved to Hertfordshire.

Streatham secondaries aren't great, Graveney isn't in Streatham and you won't get in from Streatham without a high score on the test.

Wimbledon - Rutlish is good but I think the best girls is a catholic. There is a Harris but I haven't heard great things but they are a bit marmite.

Secondary schools are going to be the pinch point as most primaries are good.

Kingston/Richmond has the best state options really.

MitchamMum · 27/07/2025 09:03

You won't get into Graveney from Streatham unless its in the selective stream, in which case you may as well apply from Wimbledon. The non selective catchment distance for 25 was something like half a mile if memory is right?

Harris Wimbledon is actually at South Wimbledon. Seems to be getting good results but lots of chat about bullying on a parents group im in.

Do you have boys or girls?

duvetsmuvet · 27/07/2025 09:04

The Graveney catchment for non selective places is tiny, you need to be living on the roads next to the school.

Think you’ve edited out critical information!

duvetsmuvet · 27/07/2025 09:26

I think I saw on here that Streatham is one of the worst areas for falling school rolls (not a good thing). What is your actual budget?

Butterflypoetry · 29/07/2025 09:35

Sorry I re-posted it because I wanted to add Streatham and Wimbledon in my title but couldn't edit that. Seems like if im looking for good state primaries and secondaries, kingston is the option to consider.. although, it might be when my kids are secondary school age, we can consider the private route. my risk appetite is low though, and we'd like our options open in the event that isn't the case

My budget is under 1 mill, and that would be stretching it, which is why ideally we'd like to keep this as our family home for the next 15 years at the very least to minimise having to pay for stamp duty repeatedly.

It's not worth moving really when buying an expensive property due to stamp duty as you say.

duvetsmuvet · 29/07/2025 09:43

It would be prudent to have back up options for private as who knows what that willl cost in 7 yrs time!

Crumbelina · 29/07/2025 09:46

North Kingston has great primary schools and (a fair bit of it) is within catchment for Kingston Academy, Grey Court and Teddington secondaries. Plus you have great shopping and access to the river, Richmond and Bushy Park.

Crumbelina · 29/07/2025 09:54

For primaries in Kingston look at catchment areas for Latchmere, Fern Hill, Alexandra and St Agatha's. Latchmere is likely to be 'upgraded' to outstanding in the next year or so (if that grading still exists by then).

Crumbelina · 29/07/2025 10:19

Oh, and St Luke's (but the catchment is teeny tiny - like 150 metres).
