Any positive stories of mistakenly being told your vendor is pulling out, only to find out they aren’t? Help me delude myself until I hear back tomorrow morning 😭😭

8 weeks into our house purchase and received an email from our solicitor this afternoon advising that the vendor’s solicitor had contacted her to request all contracting documents be returned “as we understand the transaction is no longer continuing”. Our solicitor wanted to confirm this with us, however this was the first we had heard about it, and after ringing the estate agents they were totally unaware of the vendors wanting to pull out too. They have left a message with the vendors but are yet to hear back from them, I’m expecting an answer tomorrow morning as this all happened at 4.30 today.

I feel in a horrible limbo, where I know the outcome tomorrow is going to be the vendors pulling out, but I can’t quite come to terms with it as I have no idea why. I’m clinging onto a desperate hope that it’s a mistake at the solicitors end as I can’t understand how the estate agents wouldn’t know. Has anyone ever been told their purchase/sale was imploding, only for it to be a mistake? We will be so gutted to lose this house, not to mention the money forked out for brokers/solicitors/surveys.

We’re out :(

the vendors have decided to stay put and their daughter wasn’t able to convince them otherwise. Absolutely gutted, but relieved to have had an answer as it’s been pretty horrible just waiting to see since Monday afternoon.

back to Rightmove I go….

So sorry to hear this OP, I hope you find something even nicer and this turns out to be a blessing in disguise one day.

Best of luck with it. Maybe as with any lost love, the best way to get over one is to get on top of another one!

Ah that's rotten luck. I guess they were elderly downsizers. Always risky. Another one will come along.

Advocodo · 23/07/2025 14:36

At least you haven’t lost the house cos of anything you have done. Fingers x you will get another house along very soon. I believe things happen for a reason and that the house was not meant to be.

Awwww no. I am so sorry.

I was holding out that you would still be on. I am so sorry.

Seems I am much in the same boat as you actually. Heard from our sellers estate agents this morning and our seller seems to be fed up of waiting for our buyer to get a move on and is threatening to pull out and go back on the market to find another buyer because we are not progressing, through absolutely no fault of our own may I add. So we may be on the lookout for something else too. This house buying and selling lark absolutely sucks and the solicitors have been just awful.

Yes, there were 3 sets of couples over the age of 80 in our chain so always a high chance of someone getting cold feet/health problems etc.

Thanks advo and you’re absolutely right in that it’s through no fault of our own, we’ve been very accommodating so hopefully the estate agents will be able to confidently say we are a solid option when we put in an offer of the next place.

Ahhhh man, I feel for you erling particularly as it sounds like like this has been going on for ages for you. It’s crazy how easy it is for a chain to just be blown apart because one person/couple gets pissed off, changes their mind, or any other random thing that arises. Hopefully you aren’t out just yet and it’s someone just flexing their muscle to try and pressure others in the chain to speed up. It’s horrible though just feeling like the sword is dangling over you for the whole process.

im not sure what the answer is, but surely there’s a better way for houses to be sold and purchased :(

@NameChangedForTheUmpteenthTime is it definitely all done and dusted? Any other candidates for moving?

NameChangedForTheUmpteenthTime · 30/07/2025 15:07

Unfortunately so crucible they’ve taken it off the market and said they have decided “to see out our days here” instead of downsizing. I guess it might end up coming back to market down the line if they change their minds, but we obviously need to just crack on and find somewhere else now :(

nothing else in the pipeline that’s feasible at the minute, we are looking for something with multigenerational potential which limits things quite a bit, as does wanting to stay within a 20 minute drive of the kids’ school. Hoping the market picks up in September as there’s nothing coming on at the moment.

Ah sorry to hear that. A tricky set of requirements you have. Best of luck.
