West Midlands - nice areas to live and bring up children?

I’m originally from North Wales and I own my own home. I don’t have any kids.

My partner, who I’ve been with for 2 years, is from Birmingham and rents a house in Solihull. He has 2 children from a previous relationship.

We’ve started discussing the possibility of taking the next step in our relationship and buying a house together. I would be relocating there since he needs to stay near his kids, and my job is remote, while he would need to find a new job if he moved away from the area. I plan to rent out my current house. However, I’ve never lived in a city, and I’m not sure I would be happy living in one.

I don’t know the area very well, so I would really appreciate any recommendations you might have. We also hope to have a child together in the future, so we’re looking for an area that’s great for raising a family. Our budget is likely to be around 250-300k.

TIA

I've three sets of friends in the Bromsgrove area. Two have children and seem to be happy there. When they've moved up the ladder they've not moved far! One to a little village close by and the others to other parts of Bromsgrove.

The West Midlands is very dense urban living - I live in the north west part.
Outside of the WM, Shropshire is a nice county.

The West Midlands can be defined as a large area. The route between Worcester to Stratford in Avon to Warwick/Leamington/Kenilworth have beautiful villages and small towns.

My DD has just moved back from Worcester to the area and she’s not happy about it . She prefers Worcester . She says it’s easier to drive down there . It’s all hills and roundabouts up here ha .

East Shropshire or south West Staffs are West Midlands areas really, nice towns and villages, but obviously something of a drive into central Birmingham.

Tamworth!

I love about 4 miles outside of Tamworth and love it. Close enough to go in to shops and amenities but outside so in area with large lake we can walk dogs around. There are plenty of kids activities in and around this area. Solihull too is far enough away from Birmingham itself to be less busy but close by if you want to get into the city. Good travel links and very good schools.
