Wrapping kitchen cupboards/worktops

Hi,

I am waiting to get the keys for my new home and while the kitchen is in a good working condition, I hate the colour!
How easy is it to wrap the cupboards and worktops, is this something I can do myself or do I need to hire someone?

If you have done this yourself do you have any tips or advice?
Thank you Smile

I haven't done the cupboards ( I painted them ) but I did wrap my worktops.
1st the surface must be absolutely spotless, give them a really good scrub , then scrub them again, then clean with a alcohol based cleaner.
Take off any trim and handles

Measure the worktop and cut the wrap about 2 inches bigger ( any bigger and its hard to handle)
Use a low tack masking tape to hold it in place while you trim it / put cuts in to go round corners .

Once your absolutely sure everything is clean , the right size and cut in the correct places start in the farthest / most awkward corner, peel back about 3 inches of the backing paper and using a piece of stiff plastic like a bank card to smooth the plastic down .
Make sure there are no air bubbles as you go.
Peel the backing off a few inches at a time .
Do Not Rush .
If you make a mistake it can be peeled back up but for the love of your sanity don't let it stick to itself.

Once your happy with the results go over it with a hair dryer on a low -warm setting to get the adhesive to fully set.

Make sure you don't put any hot pans/ roasting tins on it but it's fine with cups & plates .

I used DC-FIX

Thank you so much! I’m buying my first house and trying to do as much as I can if possible to keep costs down. Thank you for your detailed advice Grin

It's a great way to keep cost down.
Even if you completely fluff it it's only a few pounds compared to the price of a kitchen refit.
I think it cost me about £20 ( certainly no more than that ) about 7 years ago.
I should of added , make sure the width width of the vinyl is the same or wider than your worktop , you don't want a join down the middle.
And use a razor sharp knife, something like a snap off craft knife or Stanley when you are trimming it to fit.
Don't use scissors, guess how I know this 🙄

Ooh and as this is your 1st house ( congratulations 🥳 ) and you are keeping cost down , as a very easy temporary measure instead of curtains use DC-Fix static window covering , it makes your windows look frosted so let's the light in but people can not see in .

( I promise I don't work for DC-Fix 🤣)
