Asbestos cement water tank?

We are hoping to buy a 1970s bungalow but its just cime to light that it has an asbestos cement based cold water tank in the loft...I was surprised that this would still be safe to use. Does anyone have any experience of one in their home? Thanks!

First, establish if it is still in use in your current system. I bought a house that had a water tank in the loft but it wasn't actually in use. But no I would not use it! If it is in use, get the system altered to bypass it. And then get a licensed asbestos removal company to take it away.

Thank you @DrNo007 , I'm very much hoping it comes back that it's no longer in use!

Don't quote me, but isnt it safer left in place (if not in use)?

@raysan yes I think so and when I initially saw a photo of it i assumed it must be defunct but I don't actually know. The property has a very old ducted air heating system so I dont know if that means it must have a cold water tank and this is the only one in the property.

Ducted air heated systems quite often had asbestos in them as well...
