Removing tap head

Hi all,

I'm trying to change the cartridge on a dripping kitchen tap, but can't seem to figure out how to get the tap head off.

This is my first time trying this with this particular tap. There isn't a screw anywhere to unscrew, from that I can see.

The tap doesn't have a lid that I can pop off, unless I'm missing it.

I thought maybe the little circle in the middle with the C would come out if tried ti pry it out with a flathead screwdriver, but this also didn't work and I think I've just ended up scratching the circle..

I read online that maybe it was the type of tap cover that you can pull off, but after turning off the water at the mains, and trying to pull as much as I dared to, nothing moved.

Am I just missing something very obvious? I really don't want to pay a fortune to a plumber to come out and do this for me, but I'm running out of ideas.

Has anyone any idea at all about how to get to the cartridge for this type of tap?

It will be one of two options. Most likely, that little disc in the end of the tap does comes out but will need a very fine bladed flat screwdriver to get it out. Underneath will be a phillips screw, with that out the head should just pull off but may take some wiggling.
Second option will be the bar on the handle unscrews and has a grub screw underneath but cant tell from the photos.

Isolate the water before removing the cartridge.

If the tap is a quarter turn take the head to a plumbers merchants to get the correct cartridge with the right spline.

Thank you!

I'll try and buy a screwdriver with a fine blade like you mention and hopefully that'll work.

I did also think it could be that the bars unscrew, but there's nowhere to unscrew them and they don't twist off etc, so I think it must be that disc thing.

If not, there could be a v small allen key type screw on the body of the tap, possibly opposite the tap lever - hidden behind a cover, maybe not, can be very difficult tto get at.

Cartridge replacements can be difficult for older taps.

If so, you may be able to get a tap reviver kit, includes both cartridges and compatible tap levers.

From the photos it does look like there is a small slot for a fine flat head screwdriver in the cap thing. I have been known to use the end of a metal nail file for prising things off, but it is always worth having a new screwdriver!

Also, use a mirror or take a video on your phone round the back of the tap to make sure there isn’t a grub screw there.

And put the plug in the sink before you start taking it apart!
