Best affordable bathroom suites that are good quality and will last

Hi all, after some advice on best places to go for bathroom suites that are a good balamce of affordable but good quality. Not worried about paying extra for a design service as we have a good idea of what we would like. And we're sorted for tiles etc...

We're at the early stage of our extension- as in groundworks are just starting. It's a large one so we have been saving for a long time and we have a fairly strict budget. But we also want to ensure we're getting it right and everything's good quality from the start so we're not replacing in a few years. Our builders are great and have given us some good recommendations but I thought I would check what everyone else's opinions are too. Our builders are recommending MKM.

The kitchen was always are main priority and with a lot of going back and forth, we've finally got it to exactly where we want. However it is a tad over budget (we've done a lot of bartering on cost already so out of wiggle room). Therefore, we're now looking at being a bit stricter on bathroom budgets. We have 2.5 bathrooms being put in so definitely need some advice on where to go to for best bathroom suites!

PS. any advice on where we can get crittal style external doors then that's also helpful. We've had bifold doors for 6 years and I despise them! Nothing to do with bathrooms I know, but is the next decision to be made :)

You don't have to buy a suite, you can buy separates.

Eg, Mira are a good brand for shower trays and cubicles.

The Spanish brand Roca is stylish and widely available in UK.
(e.g. Roca Giralda WC, low profile, gentle seat closure)

Plumbase have some showrooms with wide selection of brands.

German brand Bette are good for stylish durable steel baths.

(Avoid the Italian brand “No Code” - two basins have both got crazed porcelain after very light careful use)

Yes, this is exactly the sort of advice I need :) last time we had a bathroom done, we sourced bits from all over but I had no idea what I was doing and a couple of things needed replacing soon. But most did well!

I echo this, I’ve used both Roca and Bette in previous renovations and the quality and styling is brilliant.

Avoid Victorian plumbing like the plague! Customer services are not contactable, goods are often damaged in transit leaving you stuck without your order. Qualification - worked in transport delivering VP goods and returns!

@7catsisnotenough
We have been warned off vp by our builders already. They also did recomend that we put more money into a decent bathroom and less money into a kitchen but that wasn't what I wanted to hear 😄

Crosswater is a good value British company for taps and showers and shower valves. Vitra Zentrum is a good toilet with a back to the wall foot (so you don't see the big ugly soil pipe). Ikea do great vanity units and sinks, get as big a sink as you can fit, say 80cm wide. Shower screens, 8mm is much better than 6mm. Get as much storage as you cab, like a mirrored cabinet, either she width as vanity or slightly less wide. Lighting either side of mirror is much more flattering. Astro are another British company with good products. Nice big central flush ceiling light. Maybe one downlight over shower. Definitely not one over the bath at the end where you sit!

Freestanding baths, Lusso stone are brilliant and good value but not cheap. Otherwise a steel bath will last a lot longer than plastic but plastic can still be good.
