My husband and I moved to a fun city after lock down. We love the city we live in, it's got lots going on, has lots of highstreets with community feel and is well connected for travelling.
My husband's parents live there and he has a few childhood friends around the area but none of them have children. My family and friends (most of whom now have young children) all live 2hours+ away and although I've made some great connections with people both in and out of work but none of them have become the close friends i'd hoped they might.
My husband is a shift worker and I often find myself feeling quite lonely where we currently live but I absolutely love the area.
When we welcomed our first child I suffered from postnatal mental ill health and it highlighted the small support network we have. It's made me nervous about the prosepct of trying for another baby where we are living now.
We have made steps towards moving back to my hometown. I've started a new job and we're living with family part time and initially it seemed like the right move but it's no longer sitting right with me. I'm not excited by the prospect of returning to my home town and I'm worried that moving back would be something we would regret in the longer term. There are less exciting things happening and there is less community feel. We would however have significantly more support from friends and family and the community feel that comes from that which is what I was missing most.
I'm not used to feeling this indecisive about things and I would really love any advice or lived experiences that other people have had.

A generic community feel is little use to you if it doesn't actually translate into helping each other. I would choose the option where there was most help and genuine companionship.
Assuming all things are otherwise equal, such as jobs, access to hobbies/countryside/big city/whatever floats your boat, climate, cost...
