Front door - no fake woodgrain

We're looking to replace the old upvc door of our new (60s) house. Would love a timber door but I think the price might be prohibitive... Are all composite doors shiny with the really obvious fake woodgrain? I see so many and I really don't want this but if anybody knows of any companies that look a bit more subtle, I'd love to know.

Thanks!

Timber and fake - they look similar price to me.

Just get timber. Easy to repaint when you fancy a change. I’d never buy a plastic door, it really spoils the look of a house imo.

Yes I agree. Maybe I need to try more places for timber. I got one quote that was 4k without installation 😅

Thanks for that . I’ll definitely look into it a bit more :)

I have a fake woodgrain door. It is hideous, and after a few years is cracking in the sun (it's south facing and grey). At least I presume it's from the sun - it might be people leaning too heavily on it because it doesn't open very well. It was a rockdoor or solidoor - can't remember which, so not cheap. I wouldn't buy it again, wish I'd just replaced the old timber one with another timber one but we get burgled a lot around here so I wanted the security.

Yes @Fibrous- I was wondering how secure timber were vs Solidors etc. Sorry you’re disappointed with yours. It sounds like timber might be the way to go though, especially if they look crap after a few years - ours would be right in the sun for most of the day!

Yeah to be honest I was probably overthinking the security aspect. People get burgled for their cars and mine is ancient and a shabby estate so not exactly worth much or fun to joy ride!

I think you can do much better on the price for timber. Last year we replaced an exterior door with a period timber door and a large amount of custom stained glass, triple glazed. It was about £6K including the fitting and fixtures.
