Carpet buying advice please

I'll be selling my house at the end of this year and I need to replace the upstairs carpets first as they've had it and would detract from the overall look of the house. I don't want to spend a lot, I just want something that looks OK.

I'd appreciate all suggestions of what sort of carpet to buy and where to get it from. Would you go for a big carpet warehouse type of place or is it better to buy it online (having sent for samples) and then book a fitter?

I had to replace some carpets before putting my house up for sale - bedroom and stairs/landing I went into a local carpet shop and explained I was selling and wanted to put some carpet down - not too expensive. They came uo with a carpet that would suit the stairs - neutral - but only guaranteed for around 5 years and similar for bedroom.

I’ve used online carpets and they were fab, you can get free samples too. I prefer a wool mix but they are a little more expensive.

I always go to the discount carpet place and pick a roll end on sale, it's the cheapest way of doing it and they have their own fitters too. Obviously this won't work if your rooms are massive but for our small rooms it's been v economical.

We needed to do this too and as per a pp we went to local carpet shop and explained we would be selling and so wanted neutral that would look nice but not expensive or particularly worried about longevity. They were very helpful and understood requirements straight away. Just replaced the carpet and not the underlay which kept the cost down as well.

I'd go to a local firm and see if they have any offcuts they could fit for you. Don't buy wool and you should get something neutral that's reasonably priced.
