Anyone got a smart toilet?

BelleHend · 01/07/2025 10:16

I'm very tempted by a smart toilet.

Any MNers have one?
What brand do you have?
Do you recommend?
Was it a pain in the arse to install?

Thanks!

Are these like the Japanese toilets ds keeps telling me about ??

Mysterian · 01/07/2025 19:49

Do you have to "swipe"?

unsync · 02/07/2025 08:27

We have a Vitra V-care. It is good. Very little to go wrong with it. It was installed by my plumber. You do need good water pressure for the washing part, so it is plumbed into the mains feed to the water tank in the loft.

Don't let people with limited imagination as to how it can be useful put you off getting one. If you, or someone you live with, have limited mobility, they are very good at helping maintain personal hygiene.

BelleHend · 03/07/2025 11:02

Yeah @jimmyeatworld They're Japanese toilets.

Thanks @unsync That's really useful. Was it easy for your plumber? I mean is he just a 'standard' plumber or does it need specialist skills or tools?

@BelleHend He is a very experienced guy and does a lot of bathrooms. The loo comes with a really comprehensive set of fitting instructions. I think these are available as a download on the Vitra website if you wanted to have a look first.

The main issue really was water pressure, as the tank supply was not strong enough, but as I said, he fixed that by using the mains feed to the water tank.

It does need a power source, so you will need an electrician, but as we were doing a complete refurbishment, the new spur was programmed in with the rest of the electrics.

Korean toilet with a menu and a blue arrow for westerners that don’t understand!

That's really helpful, thank you.

Is the smart toilet wonderful?

I'd worry about cleaning it.

Why not fit a bidet? They are cheap and hygienic. Also, nothing to go wrong. I imagine a power cut would cause you problems.

happysunr1se · 04/11/2025 12:38

I've got a Washloo one.
They are made in he UK which we preferred incase of anything going wrong. They were very helpful when choosing the model and all the tech info needed.

When it came to installation the fitter was a bit apprehensive but it went really easily, comprehensive written instructions were there and he didn't need any extra support to fit it.

We love it, had it over a year, no problems at all. Only thing is I catch myself walking up to other toilets and expecting them to open up automatically..

No space for a bidet

No space for a bidet

Ah fair enough!

Flossflower · 04/11/2025 15:15

A bidet doesn’t dry you either.

Alwaysmore · 04/11/2025 18:24

`We have a Toto Washlet and are so happy with it. After a trip to Japan a few years ago we decided if we ever renovated the ensuite then this would be not negotiable. Love it

Geneticsbunny · 24/02/2026 09:22

Agree with others. We have one and it is lovely. Again no space for a bidet.

Sweetiedarling7 · 24/02/2026 09:40

When I was nursing I visited a day centre which had these toilets. I think the brand back then was called cosimat?
They were fabulous because they gave disabled people the dignity of avoiding someone else wiping their bum.

3flyingducksarrive · 24/02/2026 09:46

We've had Hyundai and Coway. I think Coway is a better brand. They are not hard to install but you do need a power point.

I wouldn't be without one now.

rightoguvnor · 24/02/2026 10:11

We’ve had one for 20 years due to having a disabled person in the house. The first one was quite ugly and charmless but it revolutionised independence for our disabled person. We now have a ‘Japanese’ toilet (think it came from Victoria Plumb or somesuch) which was a tenth of the price of the previous one and is just as good. It has a control pad set to the side of the toilet, even has a seat warming function if needed. We live in a hard water area so probably needs a little extra attention in terms of Viakal around the wash inlet but other than that it’s been fine.

rightoguvnor · 24/02/2026 10:12

The ugly and charmless one was a Closomat, which I think is referred to upthread 😂
