Blackout blinds for awkward window.

I'm looking for blinds with the fitting on the back, not sides.
My walls are 2' thick, and the window recess is angled so I can't fit standard side attached blinds.
Currently using a stick on blind tucked over a curtain wire but it's a faff.
Anyone have similar and can recommend something please?
I've got black out curtains, on a pole, but because the eaves start immediately above the windows there's a gap that lets light in.

Easy blackout blinds

they attach to the window frame

CherryogDog · 30/06/2025 00:29

Thanks for replying @minipie , they look like what I'm already using, just over the net wire instead of using the sticky bits.
I should have said I want roller blinds.

I used blindsbypost for roller blinds that attach by being stretched until they fit. Would that work?

CherryogDog · 30/06/2025 09:01

@thetorturedpoetsdepartmentssecretary thanks for replying, I've had a look at them. I don't think they would fit because of the angle of the recess.
But I've got an awkward skylight which one of those would be perfect for!

Look at Perfect Fit blinds - they fit to the window, not the recess.

CherryogDog · 30/06/2025 09:37

@NeedForSpeed thanks for replying, I've had a look and they appear to need a straight side to fit into. Which I don't have, just angled stone walls and a wooden window.

Check the yellow pages for a local blinds shop. We have one locally that makes made to measure blinds and fits them. Not that expensive either.

Can you add a photo or a rough sketch of what you're dealing with?

Excuse the mess! The windows are wooden Yorkshire sash, slide sideways. There is no flat side/frame to fit side fittings, hence why I need fittings on the back.
My DP wants to make a board to fit in there but I like a bit of a breeze coming in.

@NeedForSpeed photo waiting to be reviewed.
@GonnaeNoDaeThatJustGonnaeNo thanks for replying, there is a little shop in town that makes and alters curtains, when I've got time to go in I'll ask there.

I could get wider black out curtains to cut the light from the ring holes, but there is no way to stop the light coming over the top at 4am.

Gorgeous window!

Would a bespoke roman blind work? Even get them to cut it to shape with the stone?

CherryogDog · 30/06/2025 10:06

@NeedForSpeed thanks! It's a lovely cottage that needs someone with a lot more money than me to renovate it 😁
All the walls are wonky and someone before me bodged the life out of it.

And yes, I think you've cracked it with the Roman blinds suggestion. Great idea thanks!

I'm such a nob ☺️, I've lived here 7 years and only just noticed that this Venetian blind (left by the previous owner) has the fitting on the back. So they do exist!

In the past I've rolled up a blanket or large towel and placed it on top of the curtain pole to stop the light coming through there.

@thetorturedpoetsdepartmentssecretary
I've done that too.
Tucking the black out blind over the wire is working, just want something tidier.
