Static Caravan

Has anyone bought a static caravan that they live in full time? I’m interested in one that is 35 years old, on a site where they are all old. It’s in good condition but I’m worried by the time I die it will be worth nothing. Any ideas would be appreciated.

You can only put the caravan on the land for 28 days a year without PP even if you don't live in it.
It is usually quite difficult to get PP unless the residential use is required for something like an agricultural worker.

35 years old? Are you being gifted it? It's worthless at that age.

You don’t need planning permission to put the caravan on the land. You need planning to use it. The 28 day limit is an exemption that allows land to be used for camping, including staying in a caravan, for 28 days a year without needing planning permission.

No. The stationing of a mobile home/caravan is classified as a change of use of the land.
You can change the use of land for 28 days under permitted development. Any longer than that requires PP.
The only exemption is if the mobile home is required whilst building a self-build dwelling and you want to live in site.
I have dealt with many such applications over the years.

I think you and the previous poster are meaning the same

One does not need planning permission to store a caravan on one's own driveway (although there may be covenants on the deeds preventing doing so).

The change of land use rules you correctly refer to starts with the act of physically residing/living in the caravan, not its mere stationing / existence on the land
