Leaving the conveyancing profession

Hi, I have 15 years experience in conveyancing and thinking about a change. Any careers that people have transitioned to, which relate to conveyancing but I don’t have to deal with people 😆 thank you

You might get more traction posting this on Legal, OP. And/or is there somewhere for careers?

Land Register. Local authority Law Department. Some utilities companies have law departments to deal with conveyancing as do some churches and a range of public and private organisations with substantial land holdings or dealings with land.

As an afterthought - there are probably tons of private estates that require in conveyancers, OP. For example, the Duke of Westminster's estate is absolutely vast.

Try putting 'conveyancing solicitor' into Glass Door and Linked In, scroll past the people who are obviously working for law firms, look up which other firms those folks are working for, and that will also give you a wider idea of where else people go to.

I would also speak to some recruiters and say 'get me out of the law firm' and see what ideas they come up with.

Look up friends and colleagues who have left. Where did they go?

Are you a solicitor? If so, apply for any area you want to work in. you can go in at a lower level if you’re prepared to accept a reduction in salary (although I assume conveyancing isn’t paid brilliantly)?

That’s really good advice, thank you so much

Land Registry, National Trust/English Heritage, other landowning charities. Local authority lawyers now have to be a jack of all trades and won't only (and may never) deal with conveyancing.

Could you work in house for a housebuilding or social housing provider? It would cut out one side of the chain.
