Kitchen or bathroom upgrade?

Which would you do first? The kitchen is obviously going to be more expensive - we'd probably need a loan for part of the cost, but obviously we spend more time in there. The bathroom is more affordable and quicker to do.
Both are functional but very dated.
We've done all the easy decorating and we're now left with the big stuff. If it makes a difference we're not planning on moving again for a while so we will be doing it for ourselves for the most part

Always start at the top and work down.

If you can only do one at this time, I’d go for the kitchen. You spend more time there, it will make a bigger difference to your life.

Would go for kitchen as you spend more time in there.we did it years ago and got free loan from Wickes which we paid back in an instalment plan with no interest

fwiw, and it may not be worth much, a family member waited until one of the two went wrong first.
Turned out to be bathroom. Leaked in two places, including water coming down through the floor.
So they did that one.
Sold the house a year later[not because of bathroom or kitchen] before they got around to redoing the kitchen.

Whilst the argument about starting at the top is a good one, it also depends on how well you can live with the existing kitchen. When we did our renovation we did the bathrooms first as they were all eye-poppingly hideous and the kitchen was just about livable. Although that tested our patience when the main oven door seal went a bit after 6 months and the oven needed a heavy storage box pushed up against it when in use to keep the temperature up!

Ultimately the clincher for me was the idea of sitting in somebody else’s bath, which I’ve always found grim. But that’s just me.

We did them both at the same time to save money on booking the contractors out twice, along with general decorating. Turns out it was a good job they did them at the same time because they uncovered a lot of interlinked issues by the previous owners DIY-bodge jobs, electrical issues, leaks from the bathroom into the kitchen and all sorts.

It was madness and chaotic (with a toddler and a baby) but it shortened the impact/disruption/dust in that once it was done it was done. We lived on site.

Always start at the top and work down.

I remember this as good, solid advice when taking a girl to the cinema, when I was fifteen. 😇

(Didn't always work...😳)

Start with the kitchen because it needs more work and would take more time (and money). You can use a 3d kitchen planner if you want to change everything and choose another style and a different color palette, it will help you to visualize everything and see the possible result.
