Anyways I can modernise my kitchen on a budget myself

Sorry for the slights mess in the kitchen, I am heavily pregnant and nesting badly so having a mad clean!

I’ve never really liked my kitchen since moving in 7 months ago, I would love to modernise it somehow but spending as little as possible as we will get a whole new kitchen fitted in the next 5/6 years or so. Any ideas what I can do to modernise my kitchen on a small budget. Cabinets aren’t wood, they are wrapped so no idea if painting them would be easy. Any ideas welcome please!! Thank you ☺️

@WonderingWanda thank you for this, I honestly thought it was the wood that was making it look outdated! Do you know if they would also be able to do something with the tiles on the wall as well?

I painted my cabinets pink. Pretty sure you just need a primer and a small roller on those.

Also painted my tiles. There was just one row of them so it wasn’t too much.

I'd definitely change either the floor or the counter tops. It doesnt have to be both, I just think both being mismatched tile squares isn't helping.
A cohesive colour scheme would make all the difference. I'd keep the wood cabinets and change other things to more complementary colours for the wood.

I'd buy some new door fronts from B&Q. Then buy new worktops. They are not hard to fit yourself and a competent person with DIY skills can cut the holes for sink etc. and put end caps on worktops. I'd leave the floor. I quite like it.

New worktops would make such a difference.

I like the tiles.

new work top and floor. for the work top I would match the tile colour to create cohesion.

Paint the walls a deep mossy green.

unclutter to keep the work top clear.

I painted the walls, tiles and wood cabinets in mine :).

I also added various plants and flowers to brighten the space and added a couple of artworks on the walls (stuff I did myself & bits from charity shops).

I like the wood, but the floor and the tile tops are not great. I would vinyl the floor if you want something cheap, and replace the worktop.

I'd consider a shelf along the tiles with some nice bits and pieces. Id also consider taking the 3 wall units down and replacing with shelves as they feel a bit heavy. Or remove the doors and have open shelving.

Colour wise, look at Tailor tacks from farrow and ball. Its a really pretty pink, barely there, which would work well woth your wood and tiles.
