Rats/mice

I live on a terraced street, both my neighbours have rats or mice. Neither of them have physically seen them, but evidence of them being there. I have a small baby in the house and am so worried they'll come into ours. We are in the middle and have searched high and low for something but there's nothing. Is there anything I can do to stop them? It's been a good few months since they first seen them.
We own our house
Grateful for any advice/experience thanks!

If there were mice or rats in your house or roof you would know about it.
You would hear scratching noises if they were in the roof or walls and if they were in the house you would see little black droppings.
If those things happen call a pest controller, don't bother trying to deal with it yourself.

Rent a cat.

No definitely can't hear anything. So you think just wait until we do hear anything?

And how difficult is it to get rid of mice if they do get in?

I think maybe your asking how to prevent them.

You need to find every tiny hole. If a pen can for through so can a mouse. You need to stuff wire wool and expanding foam into every hole you can find inside the house.also check where there are pipes such as under kitchen sink bathroom toilet etc . Also check under kickboards. Cover any air vents with mesh that has tiny holes.

Outside look for any holes on the house and stuff them with wire wool and expanding foam. Any air vents cover with mesh with tiny holes.

Or call in a professional. My experience with them are that they just put down bait trap come back to see if mice /rats are caught . Come back a couple of times to see if trap is clear. If it is job done. Until next time.

No, don’t wait until you see signs.

If you see signs they have already made a home in your property.

Prevention is better than trying to remove.

You want to make your house less attractive than your neighbours

Keep food covered.
Block up any gaps in outside of property and under skirting boards (steel wool)
Keep garden tidy.

Etc…

Yes thank you! I'll get DH on this with me. We recently found out that the lady we bought off had an issue with rats, and as we've been looking it's clear she's done alot to block them out! So hopefully this has worked

We just live with them. Think they come through the floor boards - we’re mid terrace in an old stone mill cottage and everyone has mice (and we have 8 cats between the four houses!). We have one cupboard that they can get into and just make sure it hasn’t got anything they can eat in it. They can chew through plastic so tins only.

we went through a period of trapping them and releasing them further away but it was endless.

it’s the mice the cats bring in that are the real pain. Trying to find and release those at 3am isn’t fun.

Not with my baby crawling around and eating everything in sight!

Yeah ours just poo the cupboard, they’re not usually running around the house unless the cat brought them in. They get in behind the kitchen cabinets somewhere. Are yours out and about around the house?

We haven't seen/heard any, or any droppings etc. just both neighbours either side have them so think it's inevitable that we'll get them
