Does anyone else have a Nuaire vent?

Just moved into a 50s bungalow. There's a Nuaire vent in the hall ceiling. Have not ventured into the loft yet to see what's above it. I'm scared of loft ladders! Is a Nuaire vent a useful thing? Will I find controls for it anywhere? And where are they likely to be? Or is it just a hole to the loft?

It's grimy around the vent which suggests to me that air can be sucked up into the vent??

We have a Nuaire Drimaster Ventilation System in our property. We have a vent, similar to this one but its round and its located next to the loft hatch.

The controls to turn it on and off are in our loft where the body of the system was fitted. You can turn it on and off here.

However, our system also has a small wall controlled panel with 4 square buttons on which was fitted next to our thermostat for the boiler. With this panel you can turn it up/down/boost or heat, but these can only be used when the body of the system is switched on in the loft. Do you have a wall panel on any of the walls nearby?

If it works then its a great bit of kit. It draws air from the loft and down into your house/bungalow through the vent (rather than sucking it up) and circulates the air round the house and has been brilliant for keeping the house ventilated. It isn't noisy, just a light 'fan sound' (unless you use the boost function and then its a bit louder) and it doesn't make the house cold and other than the slight fan noise you can only just feel a little air movement. We barely notice its on. It just does its thing. We don't need to open the windows to ventilate the house in the winter (although we still do in the summer just because we like fresh air)

We had ours installed when we moved in after we would get a ton of condensation on the windows upstairs. We now no longer get that and the windows and house is nice and dry.

You could maybe google Nuaire Systems and see if you can find your model and how it works. It may well be that yours just needs switching on in the loft and only has the one function, hence no wall panel.

Thanks so much for a very thorough reply! I will have a look around for a wall panel and I'll get my son to look in the loft one day.
