Hi everybody, wondered your thoughts on the below.

Paid my mortgage off last year at 35 on a house i hate.

The walls are paper thin and i sleep in the spare room. Cant relax at all.

Love being mortgage free and working 4 days a week in new job for lower salary.

Really want a new house prefererably detached but this would mean giving up the 4 days and looking for a higher paid roll as would need another mortgage.

Is it worth the trade off?

This phrase says it all - It would be worth working hard for the next 10 years for somewhere you really can call home.

You are young and time is on your side.

Yes its definitely worth moving and trying to find your forever home.

I guess you need to make the work move first as that's not necessarily so easy in the current employment market.

Take out a really low mortgage and live somewhere you love. Literally love. In our 50s but we brought our dream house for a very low mortgage (we have a ten year mortgage but will pay off in five) love it.

I would say in your circumstances it’s worth it.

Just take your time to find the right house. There is no rush.

Yes. Move but look slowly and carefully for the right place. You might be able to find something suitable that doesn’t cost that much more than your current place.

Spend the next year or so saving so you have a big deposit and a small mortgage.

I've been in a similar situation to yours, so I would say yes as unless you have soundproofing installed - which can be expensive and may not always work - the problem will never go away.

An alternative would be to look into a newer build property, as there are resistance to sound regulations that have to be met.

At least you have one room in your house where you can get some quiet.
