How would you layout your kitchen

We moved house this year and I really hate the kitchen. It feels cramped and small and there's a really annoying island in the middle with just a hob and nothing else. I want to change it about. At the moment as you can see the small side is the kitchen area and the other side is the dining area. I want a bigger kitchen and was thinking of switching it about but is that realistic? Baring in mind that the pipes are on the side that's currently the kitchen. And that the back wall to the garden would probably need to be where the sink is? Anyone fancy re-writing the floorplan for me? Thank you!!!

If the (tall?) fridge is that open door next to the sink....I can see why it feels cramped. Our kitchen diner is the same size and admittedly we have overflow storage, extra sink in utility nearby. However, it feels spacious.

So this is what I suggest.
Sink under side window. Get rid of island (we started with one 60 x 120 then moved it onto the far wall as an extra countertop storage and that has been much better...Island broke room up too much)
Reposition table so it is longways to the window (our table is extending oval so easy to get past, and can be just round/smaller)
Put countertop /dresser or storage cabinets against wall under velux.
Get rid of right angled bit where sink and fridge are. Fridge opposite to where it originally, on dog leg run near where internal door opens so it doesnt block view.

Alternatively move entire run of kitchen units with only shelving no cabinets, apart from extractor hood, to other side of the room on the patio door side. So you are an open space when you work and open access to garden. Would involve moving drainage pipes etc. Banquette seating on one side and table/chairs where original kitchen was. Cosy nook. I'm not sure exactly how small that area is though.

Thank you - this is very helpful. I actually hadn't thought about moving the sink to the side window. Id actually sort of forgotten it was there.

I'd join the units up with the hob to make a breakfast bar.

I'd go into a couple of kitchen places (IKEA?) and ask them to design me a kitchen. Even if they don't allow you to take away their ideas you can remember them. :) Plus you might like their kitchen. DIY Kitchens are good.

What about this- it would mean moving the door, changing the downstairs loo door to a slider or a double door and changing the sink drainage but better flow and would certainly feel a lot more spacious. If you’re not sure you’d need the island then get a moving one to start off with, like the second image.

Agree with others though, take a few rough ideas to a kitchen designer and see what they can come up with.
