DIY Helmsley, obvs.

The new Howdens Ilfracombe looks nice, any idea how the pricing compares?

I have been scrutinising pics for days now and have observed with these kind of 'faux in frames' that once panels are added you get an almost double in frame look which I am not so sure about. Has anyone experimented with mix and matching standard shaker models for some elements of the kitchen where panels are required, meaning that the panel acts as a sort of frame effect? Does that make any sense I wonder. I actually am quite keen for a bit of Howdens/DIY vibes as I like a smooth running drawer and i'm not mad about butt hinges, BUT, there is a lot of superfluous panelling in some of the kitchens I've been looking at.

Any slab drawer solutions to these cheaper ranges for the proper devol look?

Anywhere else I should be looking?

Hopefull bump to my previous thread!

Since last posting I've been looking at HMKOC and now also the Painted Kitchen Co (they don't seem to be related, but both in Christchurch).

I also have a DIY kitchens plan. I think with the HMKOC sale pricing it will work out somewhat comparable to DIY but then painting on top. I'd rather not have a handpainted kitchen tbh! I quite like the sprayed pristine look. But, I do want dovetails etc.

The other one is the White Kitchen Co but they have sent a quote that is out of my budget, I think it will be about half as much again as the others.

Feedback on HMKOC or more importantly Painted Kitchen Co (also called Classic Kitchens I think). I am leaning towards the latter?

We’ve had HMKOC and we love it. If you go wide on the pan drawers and cupboards, it saves money. It looks expensive once fitted and painted and the insides are beautiful also with the oak veneer. Our builder and painter were shocked when they found out the cost. The downside is it needs painting which is annoying and it took a painter about 4 whole days

I did look at the Devol showroom. HMKOC was a fraction of the price, and we spent a bit extra getting a seriously nice worktop and handles elsewhere.

Thank you @january1244 that's encouraging! I paid the deposit to get the sale pricing today.

Dreading the painting to be honest, we have had a bad experience previously and swore never again! My quote currently from HKOC is less than half the Neptune one and I threw everything at it in terms of bifold larders and what not. Hopefully it will work out well!!!

Can you get it spray painted? I wouldn’t do it myself (I know they say that people do) especially after watching the painter. He had to use Knot Away, paint and sand, paint and sand, paint topcoat. It was a huge job. Rolling the inside with oil wasn’t too bad but the rest, wow. I’d never have got a nice finish.

Yes the larders and the appliance housing larders on the countertop are beautiful. They do reeded glass also

I think you might be able to get it spray painted, but the received wisdom seems to be that handpainted is better. I wasn't going to do it myself, but last kitchen we had we had 'professionals' supplied by the company to do it, who made a complete pigs ear of it and never actually fixed it properly at all. It was a company frequently recommended on here for 'cheap Devol look' etc, but we were early customers and don't think they had their act together yet. Anyway, i'm a bit nervous of the HMKOC thing going the same way, it concerns me a bit that they don't involve themselves in the painting process at all!
