Advice on protecting carpet in hall and stairs during building works

Like the fool I am I have had new carpet fitted before window replacement which I involves removing existing metal frames and old remaining box frames .
What's the best product and how to tackle the stairs ?

The work is being done by a builder I've used before ,he's self employed a lovely guy but not the tidiest so I'd prefer to sort floor protection myself .

That plastic film that’s slightly sticky on one side? Purpose made for the job, I think.

Taktec brand carpet protection film. You can get it at Wickes, Screwfix etc.

We had our ceilings plastered with newish carpet and they didn’t incur any damage.

If the carpet cost a lot of money, why not speak to the carpet fitter about getting it taken up and then re-fitted after the work? It can be done.

Roll and stroll - carpet cover

I'd not considered that .It wasn't expensive ,my finances are a bit limited 🙂

This. Our builders installed this on the first day before they did anything messy.

Plastic carpet cover is made for the job. It's like a giant meter-wide roll of low-tack Sellotape that sticks over your carpet. We had a big insurance job done – obviously they didn't want to make any more damage – they used that on the carpeted floors and corrugated plastic sheets on the hard floors.

Ok ,thank you .Would the sticky back film not get ripped /pierced with booted feet carrying heavy frames ?
Does it withstand foot fall ?
Could dustsheets go over or is that a trip hazard ?

The plastic sticky stuff is very effective but you need to watch your step while it’s in place as it is a little slippery.

We’ve had some down on the stairs landing (ie heavily trafficked)for 6 weeks and it’s still intact. I wouldn’t go for the most budget option if that’s a concern - at least something sold at Screwfix or a similar trade counter.

yes we had this down for a job and it worked really well
