Can I fit a Blanco or Franke sink to Ikea plumbing??

I hate my Ikea stainless steel sink. It's flimsy, scratches so easily and is the worst sink I've ever seen for water marks. I'm changing the worktop so thought I'd change the sink while I'm at it but looking at measurements I'm not sure i can fit a non-ikea sink in the space, the issue being the height of the sink and plumbing clashing with the back of the drawer. I think the only way it will work is if I can use the Ikea plumping with the new sink.

Has anyone done this?

I’ve fitted plenty of non ikea sinks in ikea kitchen cabinets. You just need a plumber to look at what you have, what you’d like to fit and then give you a list of fittings to buy (or supply) to make it happen.

Ah great, thanks @Netaporter I'm sink shopping and suddenly thought, what if they won't work with the drawer!

Now, next question, white composite or stainless steel ??? !!!!!!!!!!!!!

It depends where your drawer is? At the bottom like an oven warmer, fine- directly underneath the sink might need a carpenter’s input.

Stainless steel is hard wearing. I have a really big and deep smeg one at home. I use White Rocks (a brilliant all purpose cleaner that does everything except marble and lasts ages). Buy the best one you can afford. I did actually put a gold/brass coloured butler-style one in a property I renovated - it looked fab but no idea what it was to live with.

Ceramic or stone is hard wearing but you will break glasses in either.

I’ve never had a composite sink but my parents had a fake stove type one - and indeed used to break stuff in theirs too.

I've 2 drawers under the sink and there is about 3 or 4 cms clearance between the back of the top drawer and the bottom of the Ikea plumbing. I'm hoping a new sink can be plumbed to this.

I was all set to get a Blanco stainless steel but then my head was turned by the white composite ones. But everywhere I look people are saying don't get one because of the staining. Even the guy in Ikea said to avoid their white sinks! Can they really be that bad?? Although don't fancy smashing thinks in it either. Anytime I've used a Belfast sink in the past I've been a bit nervy washing up and I don't want to be like that in my own home.

Definitely invest in White rocks in a tub and never use turmeric ever again 😂
