To allow a video tour

We are putting our house on the market and agent is keen to have a video tour. I am a bit reluctant because it seems a bit more intrusive than photos, as anyone can span round entire rooms.

Did you / would you allow a video tour? Would a video tour make you more or less likely to view a house?

We usually look at the video of house we're interested in. In some cases it's made us keener, in others it's shown that the house is more tired than the artfully taken pictures show. So as a buyer I like them

Not the 360 viewer things though, they make every house look weird. But an agent doing a video walk through is useful, but not essential

OtiMama · 30/05/2025 21:17

As a buyer I like them. Feel like it saves time as you can see things you don't on photos like the feel of the layout. Only time I probably wouldn't would be if the house was in pretty poor condition.

We love proper video tours with commentary. But I don't like those 360 ones - they're hideous. And we don't like the video tours that just show the photos. I feel cheated and annoyed.

Some good proponents are Gary from Longsons (in Norfolk).

And Mansell Mactaggart (?) around Haywards Heath

Does anyone have any other recommendations?

Yes absolutely I love a video tour, or a 360. They are so helpful!
when I click on a ‘video tour’ link and it’s just the same photographs set to music it’s so disappointing!

Weekmindedfool · 31/05/2025 09:04

Only problem with a video tour is you can’t shove all your crap in the corner to hide behind the cameraman like you can with traditional photos! So a bit more effort to set up the rooms.

youwillneverknow · 31/05/2025 10:21

It is the 360 degree video tours I have a problem with! It seems so intrusive allowing every nook and cranny of our family home available to anyone to look at anytime. And yes the 360 degree ones are clunky to navigate, I agree. Although the video tours that are just a collection of photos aren’t overly helpful. Sigh.

Yeah we had a 360 video tour with both agents we listed with. I think it's useful as weeds out any time waster buyers as they can pretty much view before physical viewing. We had nearly 100% offer rate on viewings so we did find it helpful.

I don't like the 360 tours and never look at them. I'd far rather waste a vendor's time by seeing if the home works for m once it has passed my initial screening.

Stumblingalongthroughlife · 01/06/2025 14:45

As a buyer I love a video tour. It's a lot easier to have a look at all angles, especially in markets where second viewings are quite rare. We were able to get a much better idea of what questions to ask/what to check out rather than just carefully angled staged photos

greencartbluecart · 01/06/2025 14:57

But if people come round they will see it all anyway - is your home that shameful? Perhaps we can help you prep ?

youwillneverknow · 02/06/2025 13:02

No, our home is not shameful, it’s totally refurbished and really lovely. I just find the 360 degrees span videos a bit intrusive and dislike them from a security point of view. We have agreed to a different video tour - either montage or walk through.

Stirabout · 02/06/2025 13:07

No.
Our property is single glazed and listed and we can’t have really good security locks on windows so I wouldn’t want anyone checking out the locks by zooming in

Plus, for those with anything expensive on show it’s just an advert for burglars.

( of course you could store antiques away but a nightmare with furniture )

If actual buyers are interested they’ll get that from the photos etc. Why let the whole world of non buyers in too,

youwillneverknow · 02/06/2025 13:22

Thanks @Stirabout- I feel the same and I’m glad it‘s not just me

They are really informative and may result in you accommodating better informed viewers that are closer already to a potential offer.

Photos of all rooms, floor plan with dimensions and a video. All good sources of pre viewing information.

Sprig1 · 02/06/2025 13:36

You want to sell your house. Surely anything that might help with that is a good idea.

Newbie8918 · 02/06/2025 13:37

Of course I would (and did)! Do you want to do everything to sell quickly or no?
If you don’t want a virtual tour then you’re really going to struggle with viewing and buyers questions!

Our local estate agent says take up on videos is about 50/50. You aren’t alone
