Moving to Thame/surrounding area?

We're late 50s and wanting to move away from the West London suburbs in the next few years so have started taking some drives out to look at potential areas. We absolutely love Thame and have also visited Long Crendon & Brill so far which tick our boxes.

We're looking for a 3 bed detached with a double garage or potential for one (husband's dream!) and a manageable garden. Don't want to do loads of work (been there, done that) so would consider a new/newish build as long as it has decent size rooms and is not on a huge estate with houses built on top of each other. Needs to have some local amenities - local shop & hopefully a pub or two with a sense of community and a short drive to more amenities such as the supermarket. Schools not a consideration obvs! Long Crendon looks perfect but is not cheap! Also need to be commutable to our current area as it's likely we may have to continue working initially and also to see friends/family, so in easy reach of the M40 ideally. The areas mentioned are just within an hour of our current home which would work. Our budget is 800k max. Rightmove suggests this may be possible but I know from experience that often houses are nowhere as good in the flesh as they appear on paper!

Has anyone done a similar move or may be able to suggest other areas we can look at.

Thank you 🙂

Would also consider a bungalow but husband not so keen (I'm future proofing!).

Not sure there is much to add really. It's a great area. Go and look at some houses. 😀

Long Crendon and Brill are both very pretty but small and the type of place people stay forever so not as much property for sale as Thame, I think I you would also struggle to find a double garage.

Your budget would go further in Thame or Haddenham, both less idyllic but with a lot more property options and still lovely places to live.
