Debating between wooden panelling like the photo (or the rectangular panelling kits) or tiles to a similar height in small downstairs toilet. Any thoughts/regrets?

Wooden panelling or tiles in downstairs toilet?

If you have young children I’d go for tiles as they are hardier and easier to wipe down. Wood will get soaked, paint will chip etc. We decided against panelling for this reason.

You can get tiles which looks like panels now - I think Easy Bathrooms selling them. I am thinking about using them for our new house bathroom renovation.

We've recently put wood panelling in our bathroom and I really like it, I'm planning to do the same in the downstairs loo. Our bathroom was previously completely tiled, and it felt a bit sterile and got very chilly in the winter. Now that we've fitted the wood panelling its definitely got more character, and doesn't feel as chilly on a cold morning. I absolutely wouldn't be fitting it if I had very young DC though! I painted ours with a washable eggshell paint, but for young children I'd feel tiles would be infinitely more hygienic!

We have panelling and young kids. We used the moisture resistant mdf with grooves cut and several coats of primer and paint. Absolutely no issues with moisture or chips and it goes around the bath and sink (tiled shower). I love it and think it gives the room more warmth.

I would do panelling - we’ve just redone our downstairs bathroom and it’s fully tiled as it’s also a wet room with no shower screen. It does look beautiful, but I agree with others saying panelling is a softer, friendlier look. We have panelling in our other bathroom and I prefer it.

Would panelling suit your home? I think it looks odd in new builds. Might have a warmer feel than tiles but I like tiles, they look good and are practical.

Love the tunge and groove panelling !

I have both panelling and tiles in different parts of my bathroom - tiles win hands down for me. You simply can't get paint areas really clean and mark-free.
