Help me find this door!

Hi, I am replacing all of our internal doors which are knackered and broken, been there since the 80s when the house was built. I’m looking for a white 1930s door, and it needs to be a pre finished solid door - see pic attachedI’ve been to Howdens etc and haven’t had much luck, can anyone recommend a door which meets this criteria, am starting to lose my mind! Thank you

Yes that looks like it does the job but can’t work out if solid wood or not, am I just being dim?

Agree. It says material is ‘solid engineered timber core’

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 17/05/2025 17:10

Look on eBay. There are often people renovating who rip these out.

If you do find the doors, please don't put the handles in that location though! They look really weird so low down!

Jennywren8 · 17/05/2025 17:18

No, they definitely need to be higher up where the middle bar is!

I had to use AI on that and it tells me that a "solid engineered core" refers to the inner part of a door made from multiple layers of wood, typically glued together in different directions, creating a strong, stable, and dimensionally stable core. Unlike solid wood doors, which are made from a single piece of wood, engineered doors use this core to minimize warping and expansion/contraction due to temperature and humidity changes.

so not solid wood but not an empty shell inside either, think that would be okay and last

Genuine question - why do you want to put a 1930s style door in a 1980s style house? Won’t it look out of place?

Geneticsbunny · 17/05/2025 18:04

Couple of different options here in pine https://www.doorsgalore.co.uk/Internal-Doors/Internal-Pine-Doors/

@KnickerlessParsonsI quite like the design and our house is quite light inside, and because we are a family of 6 everyone has had an opinion so just chose the door that was the most amendable to every one. Which one would you go for in my position, could still change my mind! ☺️

Hi - Aspect Door Company in Sunderland supply solid oak doors like this (sorry I can’t post the link for some reason).

Not sure where you are in the country, but they are a beautiful quality door and are lovely when painted white.

gillybombilly · 17/05/2025 19:02

Ive got Leader oak doors in my 1930s house and they are fab. Ton weight though

Gribbit987 · 17/05/2025 19:12

You say “pre finished” but also mention white doors. Pre finished means ready for paint or staining. Primed is when they come with a white undercoat. The ukoakdoors attached are pre finished but not primed.

Mostly off the shelf you’re going to get primed doors in engineered wood or solid wood not primed. Because solid wood is pretty and many people like to stain them. However, often if you call you can get them to spray prime any door even if it’s not listed online.

Leader doors and todd doors are both good if you like engineered pre primed. I’ve purchased from UkOakDoors before and have been happy.

In your house I would personally go for a standard 4 panel door as it’s classic. I think you will regret a 1930s door in a 1980s house. But your choice obviously 🤷‍♀️

@gatekeeperI did think about these, but does the weight put pressure on the door hinges?

No...they've been fine and look great

Hinges specify weight capacity. You just buy the appropriate hinges and the fitting instructions will say whether you need 2 or 3 per door.

Undergroundovergroundwomblingfree · 18/05/2025 22:42

Have a look at the Deanta white primed Cambridge but they will need a final.coat. I'm not sure there is a pre finished 30's style door available.
