What kind of replacement windows should we get?

We live in a classic 1930s house which originally had leaded light windows. They have been replaced at least once and we are replacing them again soon. DH prefers just plain glass and not leaded lights so that we can see the nice views from the Windows better. I have to admit we do have nice views and they would be enhanced by plain glass. I just wonder whether they would be out of character for a 1930s house? I know it will be difficult to sell the house when the time comes because of where we are situated and don't want to make it harder to sell by putting the wrong kind of Windows in.

Are there any property experts on MN that could advise what would be best to do? Plain glass or leaded lights?

Why will it be difficult to sell because of the location? I know that we knew we wouldn’t be staying long in our last house, and we knew exactly the kind of people who would be viewing it when we sold, so removed some household elements that are normal for us before listing because they would have been offputting. I suppose it depends why exactly you think it will be a difficult sale, and whether the type of person likely to view is is going feel strongly about windows of the correct period? Or go with what your own taste prefers?

Is it like either of these? So mainly clear glass, with a little original feature still there. All the houses of that era in my area are like this

We’ve put plain glass in ours couldn’t justify the expense of the extras. They’ve all been replaced including the doors. Most of ours were misted one of the doors was dodgy to lock. We had several quotes and went for the one that had been recommended by a few friends and lots of good reviews. If they need replacing go with what you want don’t think about who might buy your place when you eventually move.

I'm not a property expert!
We bought a derelict, 1930's property 3yrs ago with mainly leaded crittal windows/doors, all single glazed, some smashed in.

I felt the leading would look like a prison from inside. We went for aluminum frames which are thin, and look very similar to the previous window frames, unlike UPVC which is much fatter/more plasticy looking- with no lead on the glass! IMO a thinner frame is far more in keeping with the period than UPVC. No lead may not be traditional, but I need to live here and 365days of the year look out of the windows! If the next buyers are so bothered about lead obscuring their view and being more traditional etc, then they can replace them!

Not 1 day has gone by where I've though- 'Oh, I wish I'd obscured by beautiful view with leading on my windows, on the off chance the next buyer would prefer it!!!' 🙄
