HKOC versus DeVol

Apologies in advance for yet ANOTHER shaker kitchens post. ;)

We're getting a new kitchen and deciding between HKOC and DeVol. Does anyone have any opinions on the difference between the two in terms of not just quality of the joinery but also the entire experience. I'm nervous about the stress of managing all the moving parts in the HKOC case, what with painting, finding a good installer and all the rest. There is a £6k difference in cost between the two in terms of overall costs. I know that's not a small amount of money but in the grand scheme of things I'm wondering if it's worth it to have DeVol take care of it all (plus be liable for properly measuring etc). On the other hand, £6k could pay for other things that need doing on the house. I don't have an infinite pot of savings.

I should add that my experiences so far with both companies have been amazing. They have both been so helpful and engaged in discussing points of design. HKOC is perhaps better from my point of view just because the DeVol designer was too young to inspire any confidence that they have very much life experience of cooking in different kitchens and what works and doesn't - seemed to be interested in aesthetic only.

Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

Did you make a decision @Milinane ?

We've just been weighing up DeVol Vs HKoC.

We have an awkward property and DH is a mad keen DIYer so is leaning towards HKoC.
I have been casting a very critical eye over every bloody kitchen I've set eyes over in the last fortnight and I think we are close to nailing it.

I went back to basics and split the requirements into
Dining
Plates cutlery, tea making
Clean - sink, dishwasher, bin
Prep - island plus storage for scales
Cook - oven & hob plus saucepan storage
Fridge& freezer near
food storage pantry

As you work round the room. I've cooked in so many make shift places I want to get this right!

We went with deVol after dithering about it for weeks. The dealbreaker was that HKOC won’t do an integrated French door fridge-freezer whereas that’s completely standard for deVol. My kitchen is not huge and I don’t want a great big fridge-freezer bearing down on the room. If you haven’t already done so you should definitely consider having a design appointment with deVol - you don’t pay for that and they are brilliant. Also consider Apron Kitchens - we very nearly went with them. Good luck!
