Kitchen sink recommendation please

OK, so i have an Ikea kitchen sink at the moment but I'm not too happy with the quality. The draining board doesn't drain very well and it scratches so easily, it was hardly in a day and there were scratches despite my being so careful with a new sink. Also it's quite flimsy and the tap rocks over and back when I give it a light wipe.

So could anyone recommend a decent brand or a particular sink. I'm after a 1.5 bowl stainless steel sink that is sturdy enough not to give me a rocking tap!

This is the Ikea one so really just a better quality one than this

I think stainless steel scratches easily and there is not much you can do about that.

I have a composite one and it's fine. It doesn't see much action though as I have a dishwasher.

Well I've had stainless steel before and it never scratched like this one does. I might have a look at composite, thanks. But what about white ones, aren't they supposed to be a nightmare to keep clean?

Yes, IKEA stainless steel sinks are rubbish. They dent, bend and scratch so easily. Never again.

You want a Franke stainless steel sink - they are v good quality. Not flimsy!

We have a Kohler 18 gauge stainless steel sink and love it. No problem with scratching.

I have a white enamelled sink 2 large basins the same size no drainer. It was installed 6 months ago and its lovely, no scratches and it is well used. I spray it with a bleach spray and it always looks immaculate. My previous white sink was ceramic and crazed badly. IMO white sinks are vastly preferable to stainless steel and I would never have a composite sink, They would not stand up to use.

Blanco are a good brand as well. Stainless steel will always develop fine scratches through wear but there are products which will polish it up to some extent. I would still prefer honest stainless steel over composite sinks which all eventually stain and/or chip.

Thanks for all the tips. I think I'll stick with the stainless steel and will check out the ones mentioned.

By the way, I presume the same plumbing I have for the Ikea one will be fine for the new sink???

Get a Franke sink in brushed steel ( not high polish) . This hides all the tiny scratches you would see on a shiny one. You will be pleased.

You need to check the size of the cutout that it fits over as there doesn't seem to be a standard size, we measured ours and there were very few which were the same size or bigger. We got a Rangemaster one from Wayfair which we are happy with, it replaced a 20 year old MFI one.

SleepingisanArt · 14/05/2025 21:34

I also recommend Franke - mine is 18 years old and still looks brand new (and yes it's used every day!)

We’ve just had our kitchen done and got a Franke tap and sink. Love them. Very study feeling and good quality.

Oh I know. Ikea are very sneaky with their sink sizes. They are bigger than most so you're stuck with them unless you change your worktop which I am doing.

Thanks again everyone, off today to check out Franke. And great tip about the brushed stainless.

That good if you are changing the worktop it will be easier, and a full choice of sinks, I thought Ikea was a bit of an odd sizing with some of their kitchen parts. We didn't change ours, DH thought that the sink replacement would take about an hour or two, it took all day as he had to take the worktop off as he couldn't get the sink out easily, it was a right palaver.

Greysowhat · 15/05/2025 20:46

Yes, Ikea will make you Ikea dependent unless you change everything!
