Hi,
We have a leak and our builder said it was due to a hairline crack in the shower tray but the insurance surveyor has said there is a crack but that is not the cause of the issue, he said the grouting has failed and that is the real reason of the leak. So not covered 😨
Anyway he says we should replace the tiles and reseal etc etc,
but I don't really want to redo the bathrooms as that is what it would mean given we can't get the exact tiles still.

So has anyone had success with resealing and reglazing their tiles in shower?

Yes we had the same thing = useless tiler. I scraped out the grout and regrouted. I resealed as well. All 3 of our showers have leaked. Neighbour had the same, bloody nightmare.

did you do this yourself or get a professional

I did the grout myself - got a plumber to do the silicone and instantly regretted it - had to teach him how to do the job.
I would silicone myself using masking tape CT1 and multi-solve, I have encountered so many poor trades that I'm surprised when they do a proper job,
Depends how handy you are whether you do it yourself. Or if you know someone who will do a proper job.

Look on youtube for ct1 & multi solve instructions - it's amazing stuff.

I would get a good plumber to do it.

If you want to silicone yourself, watch this video

You need a silicone gun and I would buy anti-mould silicone for the bathroom and the main tip is to buy a Fugi Cramer profiling tool because if you run your finger along the silicone to smooth it, because your finger isn't flat you end up with a weakened concave profile when you want a triangle (imagine a cross section of the join between the shower tray and the wall filled with silicon). It's not hard - just practice the dispensing of the silicone on a piece of card first to get the hang of the pace of delivery as you pull along. If you are doing a bath fill it with water first for the weight.

This is what you want:

Another tip is that depending on how fast the leak is that you may be able to work out where is coming from by directing the shower head and having a second person where the leak emerges watching what happens.

Start with pointing the shower head low and directly over the drain - will show if leak is pipes or round plug. Then just fill the tray but avoid the joins. Then go round the joins a corner at a time.
Then the tiles one wall at a time.

May not work if you have a very slow leak but if you have running water, this will show where it is coming from.
